Granted, this doesn't prevent someone from embedding that same malicious code in valid object code that appears identical to what you expect as a server result, but its a huge step in the right direction.
While I understand your point... throwing more memory at the problem isn't going to really solve anything.
MS Office does a few things better, thats fine. OO, or someone else, needs to pickup the slack and improve their product, in both resource usage and features, before it will ever be taken seriously. Its an uphill battle, but certainly not impossible.
Where I work, Open Source is a bad word because of just those kinds of misunderstandings. Regardless of what the GPL3 is REALLY trying to do, this really isn't going to help me or any of my coworker convince management that GPL'ed software is something to look into.
Worst of all, most decission makers won't understand the concept of using GPL2 vs GLP3 licensed works... its all the same to them...
Since no one, but the devs, actually know exactly how lightning will lightning will look/feel, or even for that matter DO, I think we should wait before jumping to conclusions.
If one of your concerns is having to switch 'views' between email and calendars, I don't think you have too much to worry about (after all they could have made the contacts currently in thunderbird work like that...)
Basically she has to get her career into a rut where she won't be getting any new roles or she's considered washed up...then it will be a bargaining chip to getting her next big project.
Only thing is, according to her, she doesn't plan on acting for too much longer anyways.
For goodness sake, she has a has a psych degree from harvard, among other things.
She's prob one of the few people I don't think will be hurting for money any time soon.

While I agree that going after the CEO of the auction site might be a little extreme (barely), the whole thing does bring up a very important question:
Just how much responsibility can we place on the shoulders of public auction sites in regards to ILLEGAL activities performed by their users.
yeah, you have to click "execute..." it was originally intended to be a simple source view for a school project. I had to write the thing in about an hour because the work was due in 2hrs:(

Always validate what you run through eval()!
While not fool proof, making sure that what you got back from the server is JSON, and not a string of malicious code is paramount.
And guess what, such things already exist.

Not that its ever coming out...
