    If this is a way of countering the release of Halo 2 on the XBox (and the GTA series is fiathfully in thier court) then I ask on question.

    What is the deal with Halo?

    It sucks. I guess it is the best multiplayer game for consoles, but is console multiplayer so rife? Might be state side.

    I played halo, and it sucked.

    I would like to see a partial distro, a yoper like base, less packages, more configuration.

    Then a hole chunk (SuSE like) impors of packages. All required development for simple confmakemakeinstall's and perhaps simple walk throughs for these common actions. For newbies trying to get onto the bandwagon, this would be a diamond!

    What was the thing you got stuck on at first? write it down, and think how you could solve it for another newbie.

    ok, that aside. First 128bit file system, and get this: transactional object model

    I think this means it is optimistic but they figure it has blazing fast performance, who am I to argue. Fed up with killing this indexing garbage on the work machine, bloody microsoft, disabled it and everything and every full moon it seems to come out and graze on my HDD platter.

    Then I started to suspect they would rant about moores law and sure e-bloody-nough

    Everyone knows Moore's law--the number of transistors on a chip doubles every 18 months. What a lot of people forget is that network bandwidth and storage technologies are growing at an even faster pace than Moore's law would suggest.

    That is like saying, everyone knows the number 9 bus comes at half 3 on wednesdays, but noone expects 3 taxis sat there doing nothing at half past 3 on a tuesday.

    Can we put this madness to rest? Ok back to the articles.

    Out of the box home windows xp has on average 20 minutes (if on a uni network, much less) before it is taken over.

    corporate networks should all now be firewalled... shouldn't they?

    No the whole reason is because systems should be patched.

    Yet again - viruses and worms are different. Virus checking software is redundant. Filtering content and sandboxing any binary that fails a temporal or trust test.

    Worms - only newer ones are still prominent, why, because of system patching. So your argument about chicken egg viruses and anti-virus losses ground here.

    Secure, sandbox, trust, filter and patch.

    this isn't a 100% effective solution, but at least you know that. A virus checker makes you complacent.

    They reffered to free software, so did I, basically the concepts are important, not just in term of fiscal mechanics.

    The programs are marked for completeness, I think the fastest algorithm is important in there (all this N(o)PPN erm, numbers, I wish I remember my degree)

    But they do not support Java, I asked them why and the answer was :

    Although the use of Java was discussed during the GA and the ISC
    meetings of the IOI-2003 contest, the suggestions to use it for this
    year's contest were turned down. Java is thus not included in the
    permitted languages for the IOI-2004 contest, which are limited to
    Pascal, C and C++. A Java compiler will not be provided to the

    Seriously, getting people to vote for the right reasons.

    IT is less of a concern, I would preffer people vote responsibly, than use funky technology.

    I hope someone got shot for that first colour scheme. It was like someone had opened up the back of my monitor and vomitted profusely into the electrode guns, and then unrinated on my retina.

    quite beautiful, and grabs amazon stuff as well as google but:

    it is more useful as a replacement for amazon search than google search

    I would use this instead of amazon search, I can find the amazon product, and cross compare with third party sources.

    I wonder if froogle results will come up for book searches :-) :-)

    I like thier url format, a search for orwell gives a url http://a9.com/orwell, and the results are nice, with web and images turn on by default.

    Actually this feature alone makes it nice, web results and image results side by side...

    Turning on more of the features makes it busy, and the history feature for your searches is a quirky idea.

    For amazon searches 9/10 (because you are not in amazon)

    For google + images 10/10 because it adds to the experience.

    So I say it is useful.

    After all, we have the best music, why should we pay more for all this foreign rubbish? :-)

    The internet is a difficult place for pricing, I cannot see any justification for this price increase, so it should go. If however thier costs were equally higher for serving to the britpub.crowd then I would say leave it.

    Seems to me they just scale thier price to economies.

    Rotten blighters. What-ho-chaps.

    Handles network address translation, i.e. goes through firewalls and:

    P2P, basically kazaa do have some knowledge of this :-) it is a great product, which is why it deserves to do well!

    Skype being from the people behind Kazaa (read as people behind spyware bundled program) was a bit worrying for me. It does bundle spyware.

    Except the PDA version!

    Skype Pocket PC

    I love the idea, a PDA has a speaker and microphone, but on my Axim X30High it didn't work (it mentions this as a known issue) I wanted to use it as a geeky phone on my wifi connection.

    Other workmates have skype, so it looks cool :-)

    I guess as more money goes into the kazaa company, the more chance they have of being viewed as a less evil company (they have totally dissassociated thier skype brand now, they used to have a big "from those guys who brought you kazaa" sign.)

    Perhaps OLEDs will lead to 300dpi displays, or at least 160dpi. ~72 just don't cut it.

    So now we have Organic LED's and Organic speakers.... perhaps one day we will have an organic computer! :-)

    As OLED works with self-luminous organic materials, it has outstanding response time, without producing any afterimage even when displaying moving images (movies). Also with wide viewing angle and contrast ratio as high as 1000:1, high quality images can be realized on mobile products which are used in various occasions.

    As the saying goes, mother nature knows best. With all our technical skills, nature can produce a better light emitting substance than we can!

    This is super sexy, I cannot wait until I have a paper thin wall sized display...

    I say we give back to the project, but also to it's namesake and try and make sure that the trend in firefox population stays true for the browser and the pandas! :-/

    They are so cudley! I bet they would rip my head off as soon as frisk me for loose change...

    Oh dear, that info bar sucks, I haven't seen it yet, but no, previous versions of FF used a neat info button that showed it. And notifying someone that something happened is quite common, I wouldn't say that this is copied.

    Also interface wise - I have them open side by side, same size, 50% screne width each now - forgetting the fact that they are both using the same UIComponents (as they are are the sameOS as I am on windows (I'll tell you what FF looks like on SuSE)

    I think the interface from firefox is as related to earlier mozillas as it is to IE, and just read where the IE code came from.

    I am against the argument that people shouldn't change browsers - and I found your response to be a little too positive in the IE corner, without much backup.

    Pointing fingers at FF for interface issues seems a little childish, I saw that ugly bar, it is useful as sometimes I wondered why a site that tried to automagically open a new popup (talk about bad design) wasn't opening.

    Now newbz can see this. I set it not to show and the old style small icon is back.

    Another reason to use FF - adblock - great for removing flash movies from obnoxious sites that have dumb flash files for no reason than to offend my browser :-)
