So why do they insist that people drive an original-year Pinto then? (to continue the analogy - an old and unsafe car vs an old and unsafe browser, both coming from "reputable" companies.)
The fact that the information was already given, I used a generic object ("this guy") means that you were being unnecessarily pedantic and your statement did absolutely nothing for the topic except derail me into this conversation here.
My netbook (Acer EEPC 1000) will let you render at 1024x768, and "scoll" with the mouse cursor. I know this with Windows, and I think it works under Linux too, but I haven't tested (because I prefer to shrink stuff and use the native resolution without scrolling).
Yours might do this as well - do you have all the drivers/utilities installed? (I'm assuming you do what most do and wipe it on purchase, and do it yourself to avoid crudware etc)
I would hope that, should you come across something that would be harmful like this (and not strictly specific to your product, but a physiological issue) you would at least make sure the appropriate people would know about it. Anonymize it and send it along to a few researchers or something.
Instead, it got shoved away and forgotten about.
Good thing this guy remembered!
I mean, I understand why they would bury it had it actually been released for mass consumption. But this was not the case. There's nothing wrong with saying "Oh, we were going to do this, but when we found out it causes harm we canceled it" - Hell, that's a positive thing to do! It shows forethought and at least the illusion of caring for your customers.
It's fine at first, but give it a few moments and it will start to hurt. And it WILL hurt, and do so for a good long while. Even if you react appropriately, you're still likely to have a scar.
You are all assuming it's another Wifi device.
By the exact timing, it sounds more like ordinary unexciting EM interference.

Oh. Sorry. I got carried away, there.
The one where you don't settle for the first woman you find.
Great! No harm can come of that, and it keeps her from being a psychotic bitch.
Just be happy the story is actually interesting news, and not just propaganda and/or flamebaiting...
Aah, thanks for clearing that up.
Is there a name for what I'm thinking of?
I suspect you were merely an idiot before, but you've recently graduated to troll.
Congratulations, I guess.
That's called a false flag, I believe.
Keep making them think something will happen. If nothing happens enough time, they stop paying quite so much attention.
Then the wolves come to town, while the villagers ignore Peter's cries.
Loose lips sink ships...
Er, no. One of the founders died and the remainders thought that it just wasn't the same.
Try reading.

OK, so why did this need to be a reply to me or my post?
What's your point? (not to be snarky, but I fail to see how this is relevant to anything else in my little thread here)
Oh. Well, you said netbook, not tablet :P
They did kill the product though, didn't they? At least this is what I'm operating on, here. If they kept it going then my question is stupid.

Understanding does not equate to condoning.

WTF is wrong with them!? Why did they bury the findings!
Wow... guess I won't be taking that for granted any more.
Buying Microsoft is like receiving a burn.

I think the reason for the "attachment" to flaming and IT is that flaming is a release from the stresses and angst that goes along with the career...
Indeed. IT Vets (what else is apt to call us?) seem to make better businessmen than businessmen.
IT doesn't have release cycles. That's software development.
IT builds and keeps the infrastructure working that other people need to do their job, such as develop software.
Even though your example doesn't apply, what you say is still entirely true though. The same problems are evident.
