    I suppose a sufficiently weird decoder could drop blocks in a regular pattern and interpolate the results. Or even do something more stupid, like dropping a row of luma blocks in a field (leaving the chroma, and remaining luma. Am I swapping luma/chroma here?)

    Big difference in quality and bitrate, both leaning heavily in h.264's favor.

    I think you will find those of a technical bent take quotation marks a bit more literally than you English majors. Quotes signify that the contents within is exact and unmodified. Putting your punctuation inside them for the sake of some antiquated rule invalidates this.

    You might as well do it like this: "merkins[.]"

    (which makes you look like an even more massive tool...)

    Most DVD players have some magical incantation that gets them to skip. Mine involves yanking the power cord while it is playing, then when it goes to play back from the current location, hitting stop before it actually starts.... THEN the root menu button will actually pop up the root menu. I guess because it hasn't seen the PUO bits yet at that point?

    I love EVE. Yea, driving without bumpers, rails, seatbelts, airbags, , rollcages, and ONSTAR is dangerous. But it's a lot more fun than sitting on a low-speed monorail.... at least if you keep it in perspective. Internet spaceships is not serious business.

    er, to clarify since i bring up the GPL driver... I'm talking about Windows primarily, but used that as an example of why I don't think it is entirely the driver's fault.

    I've had a few (very minor, very few) niggles on Linux, but not in a long while (at least a year now).

    My current hardware is a 9800 GTX+. I can't remember the vendor, though. Either PNY or BFG... fairly certain it's PNY.

    I've been using nVidia hardware since the GeForce 2.

    I've had zero problems, and the models I buy have been one of "PNY" "OCZ" and "BFG"

    The 3-letter acronym is a coincidence, I have to say I never went for a particular brand but went for what I was looking for at a sale price at the given time.

    Inversely, whenever I have tried ATI, I've had nothing but issues. You can blame drivers, but I even have issues using the GPL 2D driver. I personally think ATI graphics hardware just plain sucks, but remember that is just an opinion backed by anecdotal evidence.
