So they're going to use Direct X, and probably Direct Play for the networking (horribly unportable, despite openplay), and then have plans of Linux and Mac ports?
Yeah, right, I'll just type that up on my invisible typewriter.
Why is it that every Cringely article gets posted to the front page of slashdot? Perhaps someone should submit a story that suggests people who like his writing should turn on the appropriate slashbox.
At Time Doctor Dot Org, we've already upgraded to the latest service pack of windows xp home, and services for unix for our web server and mail server. The Aliens Versus Predator server is next from Windows NT.
Without getting too zeolty, I am simply appalled by the lack of choice students have in school programming classes in the Seattle area. I seem to have no choice but to start with VB of one form or another if I want to take a CS/programming slant to my edumacation. Where is Python? Anything that doesn't make me have to dual boot just to get a piece of paper that says I can program. I realize that I live close to Redmond, but this is ridiculous.
With due respect I would like to disclose a transaction to you.I am Dr Zakk Zakkama, headof Nigerian World Bank Fraud and Antitrrust difision. Today we have closed thousand accounts valued at up to 50,000,000,000,000,00 under 419 investigation, however the money in those accounts will otherwise go unclaimed aunmless you can help me get them out of my war-torn country. Please send bank informations for transaction to begin.
I've been using my Toshiba Tecra 8000 with suspend-to-ram (S3) under Gentoo for months. It was difficult at first to get it to work, but after scripting the acpi myself, it has consistently worked. Right now I have it resuming via the power key. You can find all sorts of great hints for using ACPI/Sleep modes via the gentoo forums, even if you aren't using gentoo, the acpi script examples there are nice.
Neither the Quake 3, Enemy Territory/RtCW engines are open source. The only source that is available is for the game code. To give you an example, the game code is what sets the number of mines you can lay, and how the mines operate (being detected by spies, blowing you up when you step on them). The engine code is the renderer, input, et cetera.
From the america's army site: Please note: this release includes only the Windows client version. Mac client, Linux client, and Linux server will be released at a later time.
SDL seems like the only choice. Unless you specifically want/need DOS support, or a few other platforms other libs will get you, SDL supports a large number and has gone beyond the critical mass of 1) things that use it 2) developers interested in it and 3) employed developers who spend time caring about it (Even if it's in their off time:)
SDL has also of course been used for a number of commercial games, I've used it myself with regard to two ports - One from windows which already used SDL and was extremely easy to port, and the other from Mac OS (not X) that was difficult to port and we added SDL to that so it can just as easily go to windows, BeOS, etc.
It is important to keep in mind that since Loki expired SoF isn't network compatable via the internet. Though it is network comptable on the LAN as long as everyone sticks to 1.06 (referred to as "Gold"). Over the internet it would try to use WON, which is a service that Raven dumped in favor of GameSpy support for 1.07.
All you need is a couple blue super novas made in the gimp, a 3D model of tux driving a kart, some advertisements for Linux websites, and you're golden.
Except there never was any such card. To the best of my knowledge, anyway.
This would be fine except they mention this imaginary product twice. Perhaps they mean a GTS, GTS Pro, MX, or Geforce 3 Ti 200?
Yes and GNU's Not Unix. If you'd ever have read the kernel cousin for WINE, you'd know that:
This is the 139th release of the Wine's kernel cousin publication. It's main goal is to distribute widely what's going on around Wine (the Un*x windows emulator).

It is Valve's fault when the windows emulation software you purchase breaks?
Perhaps you really want The Linux Game List?

My girlfriend actually got me a PS2!

I've dropped my zaurus (5500) onto various surfaces from large heights, scratches on the case, yes. But never does it stop functioning.

ut2003 for Linux was on the retail CD-ROMs, there is no reason to not expect ut2004 to have the same thing.
According to beyondunreal.com, 2004 will have a Linux Client.

Some friends and I already ported David Rosen's incredible Black Shades to Linux. Which is reasonably similar to my last port, Orbital Eunuchs Sniper.
Finest store I've ever been in, they just switched locations and look much less ghetto, although they have less space. Related story

No doubt this will be buried into the mass of similar posts before long, but it is a decent format for listing where people generally go...
Excellent point, I forgot about the GF2 Ultra since it was out of my price range.
Ah but if only it had both GPU's working in Lunix.

I've had good success with Abit's motherboards in the past, and they always offer boards without the integrated crap. They're usually cheaper, too.
