You mean the case where bedrock had to willingly dismiss it's claims, and google can still appeal? Where the patent is in the process of being invalidated?
See, there's damages calculated off the patents. They started in the billions, went down to millions, and now we're looking at a maximum of about a million bucks.
one anon has gone out of their way to post negative replies. oh, do you hear the sound? It's the sound of cognitive dissonance as MS trolls realize that trolling won't keep a company successful.
google has shown time and time again that they a: constantly prevail in patents claims and b: absolutely refuse to settle.
they know what they are doing, and oracle's looking at maybe a million dollars these days. Quite a far cry from the billions, right? "whoops". Then we have this new doom and gloom, some idiot investor claiming their patent is the reason why google exists.
I think you missed the point of the phrase "patent trolling". It's not any different just because it's CSIRO. The duplexing which CSIRO had a part of they are not the only ones to have worked on. It's just that the CSIRO method is patented.
Why don't I pull a line from the article which shows why these patents aren't even valid:
They overcame it by building a fast chip that could transmit a signal while reducing the echo, beating many of the major communications companies around the world that were trying to solve the same issue.
so: they are not the only ones to have "invented WILAN". Of course they used money from other patent shakedowns to fuel these US lawsuits for further shakedowns. Way to go, CSIRO. Ethics out the window.
bluray isn't selling well at all. you know that right? ever heard of ultraviolet?
sales have been nonexistent, customer adoption has been abysmal, and the only sales of bluray that have been strong are when it's a mandatory bundle with the regular DVD.
the only reason we even have walmarts, targets and grocery stores is because none of those have tried to do anything useful and competitively priced online, and I'm including peapod in that reference.
It's going to have to be done. Whether the manufacturers like it or not - it is this exact reason why android phones are a major pain in the ass, buggy, unrelaible, etc.
Yes, your password is not being shared - but the method of authentication between the two is a point of additional security risk. How hard is that to understand?
Nothing like gawker having been hacked before to highlight how bad this is, as appropriately noted.
All this says to me is "don't go to gawker websites or participate in their comment system because it sucks". Is it that hard to figure out when "web 2.0" is a good and/or a bad idea in 2012?
I'm kinda wondering the same - however, remember that people new to manufacturing are not familiar with these requirements. So I believe the term is just "simple ignorance" not intentional negligence.
Nah, see it's just a word replaced incorrectly. they're losing the war against profit. "Cybercrime" is just the justification. They want people to spend more money under the guise of counter-terrorism.
Might want to lay off the drugs a little. Nothing has changed here. You still have the same issues you've always had with apache v2 which is that it's basically the same as the BSD license with the same problems.
don't underestimate the destruction caused by patents, copyright, etc. The damage to our culture has barely begun to show - while it's not direct, our culture is being less and less documented as a result.
Patents around green products can affect the life on earth issue, and patents on medicine cost actual lives (and money).
light does bounce yes, but not every flight is going to be an overnight flight where this makes a drastic difference nor are all devices equally bright. The light from aisle 39 is not going to affect you in coach in aisle 43, etc.
err whoops, let me link to how they did prevail against bedrock:

undisclosed settlement, obviously less than $5m, settled out of court. It could be money, or it could be zero. we don't know. I'd sure lean on zero.
hahahaha the pot calls the kettle black.
oh how I love the entertainment.

whoops.
Umm, no.
See, there's damages calculated off the patents. They started in the billions, went down to millions, and now we're looking at a maximum of about a million bucks.
Also makes me wonder what happens to bad legacy apps which rely on the older versions of java?

the microsoft fudtrain rolls on and on.

this is comedy.

say what?
have you never heard of day one DLC/activation cracks?
they don't happen on consoles.
the only reason we even have walmarts, targets and grocery stores is because none of those have tried to do anything useful and competitively priced online, and I'm including peapod in that reference.
This is the fault of not being competitive, exactly as you said.
I think it was only two weeks ago someone told me consoles have less restrictive DRM than PC's on slashdot. Excuse me while I go chuckle.
This hostility to used games is *exactly* why you don't buy consoles.
yes.

he's busy taking money for other microsoft fud projects. I thought you knew this? This defines his career (and lack of ethics).
OOO is slower than MS office?
try comparing office 2010 to OOo and you'd find it is office that is excessively slow.

I wouldnt' doubt that it'd be that hard to get a warrant in this case with microsoft helping to gather the information.
