They should get local business to participate, they could share the cost, and make it more avilable to end users. That's what they do in my city. We've had free Wifi for over a year now, and they're constantly expanding the coverage. currently it's most of the city. See the following for details: http://www.fred-ezone.ca/index.php

  6. Re:not economically feasible not a surprise on Orlando Cancels Free WiFi Project · · Score: 1

I don't think that the argument about not trying because it didn't work in Orlando is too valid. Where I live we've had free city-wide wireless for a few years, and it's used quite a bit. Not only by people surfing with their laptops, but also with people using handheld devices. They configure them to synch their email wirelessly, and they are then able to have email connectivity similar to a blackberry, only for free.

I think the reason that the project failed in Orlando was because it wasn't advertised very well. Here, they've been advertising like mad to let everyone know about the service. Also they've got Businesses sponsoring it, and they've been constantly expanding the connection area. The service is actually so good, I'm considering cancelling my High-speed cable service, and switching entirely to the free WiFi.

Also In case anyone is wondering where this is, I live in Fredericton New Brunswick Canada. You can check here for more info: http://www.fred-ezone.ca/

I don't see why one would need to buy a DLP projector. You could buy an el-cheapo LCD screen, disassemble it, put a light behind it, mount it in the table, and presto, you have a projector. Since it's just a map, you would probably not need any frensel lenses. Also on the plus side, the lamp wouldn't cost $500+ to replace when it burns out.

I'm not sure why anyone would actually buy this. I mean If you're going to use a projector, why not mount it in the ceiling, and project it on a wall. That way you don't end up taking up half your livingroom with a giant slab of glass. Better yet, just buy an LCD television, and mount it on the wall.... It would at least be cheaper ;-)

  19. Re:Sudden Motion Sensor on Apple Updates PowerBooks · · Score: 0

THe sudden motion software sounds a lot like IBM's Active Protection:

When the IBM Active Protection system is enabled, it protects your HDD when the shock sensor inside your ThinkPad computer detects a situation that could potentially damage the HDD. The protection system stops your HDD by moving the read/write heads of the HDD to areas that do not contain data, and may also stop spinning the disks of the HDD. The HDD is less vulnerable to damage when it is not in operation. The protection system turns the HDD on again once the shock sensor detects a stable environment (minimal change in system tilt, vibration, or shock). When the protection system detects system motion and stops your HDD, the following message is displayed.

It's even got a little app that detects the orientation of the laptop and will display a 3d model of the system. When you move the laptop, the pic moves as well......Weeeee

  20. Lawyer Joke :) on Pair Arrested After Telling Lawyer Jokes · · Score: 1, Funny

There was a trucker driving down the highway, when he came across a priest hitchhiking on the side of the road. Being the good christian, he offered the priest a ride. The priest accepted, and they were off down the road again. A little while later, the trucker saw a lawyer hitchiking by the side of the road too. Well, the trucker did the only thing he thought right, he pulled the truck over to the side of the road thinking to run down the lawyer, but at the last minute he remebered that there was a priest sitting next to him, and swerved to miss the lawyer. As he passed, he heard a loud bump. OH NO! he thought I killed a lawyer with a priest sitting next to me. I'm going to go to hell. He turned to the priest, and said "Sorry Father, I didn't mean to." to which the Priest replied, "Dont worry my son, I got him with the door!"
