There is a greater chance of the sun going supernova tomorrow than there is a treatment to restore a physically damaged brain tomorrow. Your fantasies don't make reality.
The earth has fire every day. It is even circling a huge ball of fire. What mechanism is there for the creation of brain restoration treatment that is not even being researched today?
Did the battery die when they did that? Because the Apple fanboys were insistent that 4G drained batteries faster, and that was why Apple didn't support it.
Obviously, if autonomous automobiles are on the road, they will just have to put up signs. Even better would be that they could have a bright orange roll of rope that they unroll down the path that they want the auto-autos to travel. Simple, fast, cheap, safe.
Work zones are easier than regular roads. Signs are already put up to handle them. They just need to make sure that the proper signage is up and the car will behave better than a human.
They should be written up and counseled for not calibrating the equipment. They should be arrested and prosecuted for manufacturing fake evidence in criminal cases.
The problem isn't really that they didn't calibrate the equipment. If that was all they did, there wouldn't have been a problem. The real problem is that the cops illegally manufactured evidence that lead to improper convictions of innocent people. Are you suggesting that the police should just receive counseling on why they shouldn't manufacture false evidence in criminal cases? Really???
As for the my employer? Sure. The first time that they catch me intentionally using my position to commit major crimes leading to innocent victims losing huge sums of money, being falsely imprisoned, being banned from jobs and publicly shammed....Yes. They should fire me.
I just need to add that it goes beyond just jamming innocent cell phones, but was doing it when their was a non-destructive, legal way to do the same thing. We agree.
How can this be possible? Many of the kind folks on Slashdot have informed me that I am stupid for thinking that there are different metabolism. Even more so for thinking that what you ingest would have any effect on this mythical 'metabolism'. They kindly refer me to the laws of thermodynamics and how it states that weight is strictly a matter of the number of calories burned through exercise vs. the number of calories consumed.
I agree. I would consider it a service if there was a standard "Request for silence" signal that was low power, didn't penetrate walls well, my phone could receive, and that I could set my phone to respond as I see fit. I would always mute my phone on entering a theater if I always remembered. Being human, I can sometimes forget things like that. That doesn't mean we should be blocking signals.
I will up your proposal, and suggest that the cell phone manufacturers agree on a common "Request for silence" signal that all of their phones can receive. Let the phones behavior be set by the phone owners as to what should happen when the signal is received. This would not cause any kind of interference for anyone around the venue, it wouldn't prevent any emergency calls. It would be very inexpensive once the implementation got going. It could use a frequency that doesn't pass through walls well or go very far. It would leave the venues to treat people with audible phone usage the same way they treat everyone else who is making noise.
I know that I would consider this kind of thing a service. I have no interest in receiving cell phone calls when I am in a theater, but I can also admit that I have forgotten to silence mine on entering.
Not to mention that if the public sleepers were smart enough, (or not so self centered) they could buy a pair of $0.30 ear plugs and enjoy their blissful silence. The people complaining about public conversations are not upset that they are hearing noise. They are are upset that someone else is making noise.
No, they are jamming the phones of innocent bystanders because they themselves were too big of assholes to get a pair of ear plugs for their public quite time.
The 911 argument is not a good one, but thinking that the jammer would get turned off in an emergency is not valid either. People forget about small battery operated electronics being on all the time. This effect would be enhanced if something exciting happened.
A better argument is that public places can be noisy. People like to have conversations, and there is nothing wrong with that. If you want to be in public and don't want to hear anyone else, then get ear plugs. They are cheap and effective. Trying to turn public places into your private place is both rude and futile.
If you are trying to sleep in a public place and are not smart enough to buy a $0.30 pair of earplugs, the problem is not the person on the phone. It is you.
I guess that is one way to try and get people to join your cult. When they don't believe in your magic beings, you just tell them that they are wrong, and that they members of your cult whether they believe it or not.
You probably also believe that all Mexicans steal stereos, all blacks people are on welfare, all gays are out to have sex with your children, and all white people are part of a conspiracy to keep minorities down too.
The funny thing is that what I say to you doesn't really matter, since I am clearly a figment of your imagination. Clearly I don't exist.
The reason they always give is that the public/private school system does not offer a quality education. Another big reason is the lack of socialization skills that public school children get. Of course, these are a couple of the primary reasons that most homeschool families choose to homeschool.
Even worse, in many districts, the math teacher gets canned because the teachers need a certain number of classes a day, and the school has to have the coach teaching other classes. Since the school would rather have a good coach teach math badly than a good math teacher teaching football badly, the good math teacher is out and the good coach is in.
Underpaid teachers are a myth. Teachers may not be in the 1%, but they are in the 50%. Teachers are in the top half of earners in the nation. Of course, that is if you count yearly salaries. If you look at hourly salaries, they push up into the top 25% of earners.
Before anyone gets the idea to pull out the "Teachers work 70 hours a week" myth. I will point out that it is a myth. While teachers that must grade huge amounts of writing will have to spend extra time reading them, those teachers are a small fraction of teachers. The vast majority don't.
Your car anecdote is a perfect example of poor reasoning that is being done when teacher salaries are discussed. We all know that the quality of a person's car has very little to their income. For the vast majority of people it has nothing to do with it. Take a drive through a poor neighborhood. You will find plenty of very nice cars. Take a look through a wealthy area where property lot sizes are more than an acre. You will find there are tons of beaters. The quality of a person's car has more to do with ego than income.

Simply, Google has found that not being evil can be profitable.

It bothers me to have people like you in my presence. Since you are not a hypocrite, you will now stop going out in public, right?
Or if they are stopping other people from using their phones? Yep. Seriously. Don't these people have homes to sleep in?
Not to mention that if the public sleepers were smart enough, (or not so self centered) they could buy a pair of $0.30 ear plugs and enjoy their blissful silence. Correction...
"Who cares about your rights to communicate, I wanna sleep in public and I am too stupid to buy a $0.30 pair of ear plugs bitches!"
That comment becomes completely invalid once you take the effect of many jammers into account.

If you don't want to sound stupid, you should think up stereo types that have not already been widely debunked.
