  1. Kill the FN Lawyer! on Grand Theft Auto Led Teen to Kill · · Score: 0

A 17yr old kid stole a car and got arrested. While in custody he grabbed a gun from a police holster and shot 2 cops and 1 dispatcher. Now the victims are suing gamestop, walmart and other companies because they sold the kid the Grand Theft Auto video games which are rated 17+ (and the kid is 17).

When are people going to lash back at this constant litigation over video games and movies? If a person is disturbed, they are going to be disturbed no matter what they play or watch or listen to. This is no different than the "Satanic messages" hidden in metal music in the 80's that supposedly caused kids to kill themselves and worship the devil, and they are just as ridiculous.

To say that playing a video game will turn somebody into a killer is BULLSHIT. It is an excuse that moves the blame from the murderer to a 3rd party. People are responsible for their own actions. PERIOD.

IF you want to sue someone over wrongfull death due to a companies product then sue the alcohol industry. If you want to prove that something takes ordinairy people and turns them into killers then sue the US Armed Services! But to sit there and say that a video game makes people kill is absolute falacy. The lawyer who is doing this has a long history of suing for money. Because he is a greedy lawyer bastard looking to make a buck.

We have too many of these lawsuits people. Something has to be done because these lawsuits are clogging our courts, making lawyers rich, and hurting our economy and the people who work for those being sued.

If all it took to make someone a killer was to force them to watch violent movies or play violent video games then don't you think that would be part of basic training in the armed forces? Don't believe the hype and carefull not to step in the bullshit.

  2. Perhaps they want to use it for remote movie edits on MPAA Looks to Sniff Internet2 Traffic for Sharers · · Score: 0

Internet 2 is used for research in medical and academic fields, it could also be ideal for use in transfering large amounts of data essential in movie post production and editing.

Don't confuse the MPAA with the RIAA. They have been pretty cool about the whole thing for awhile and not petty like the RIAA was. They are more concerned with early releases ala Academy screeners and commercial pirates than casual downloading.

Some people make a business out of sharing movies though.

  3. You will need an Enzyme based cleaner on Cleansing Hardware Of Dead Pig Odors? · · Score: 0

The smell is biologic in nature, not nicotine, or chemical like burned plastic. The organic molecules entered the computers in aerosol so are probably in every nook and cranny. A good cleaning on outside and inside of case is a good start. An air filter might get rid of residual smell, but the equipment may be obsolete in a few years so I wouldn't spend too much effort. The case cleanings will go a long way though. Enzyme cleaners break down the organic esters and stop the stink.

  4. Re:Indians just aren't suited for it on Tech Support Levels Dropping · · Score: 1

Actually I think the Indian people are as suited for it as American people. Both countries have excellent educational opportunites and large groups of English speaking people who are educated. The fact is that tech support, call center, type jobs are boring, repetative and painfull for anybody to do for a living, regardless of culture or race. I worked in a CompUSA call center for 3 1/2 years and the average turnover rate was about 8 months. It is one of the most stressfull jobs and now the pay isn't even good enough to justify the pain. Most of the people working in call centers now are not given the tools or the time to train and understand the products. They are essentially paper pushers that use canned responses to answer questions. They often don't know any more than someone who bothered to read a support forum.

  5. You know it's not easy on the Indian people either on Tech Support Levels Dropping · · Score: 0

I saw a show on Tech TV where they showed how the people in India get the job, and what training they go through. It's basicly cultural racism in their training. They are only allowed to speak in English when they are on the floor. They are expected to learn about American sports and cultural references. It's like "How to fake American 101" but it's the fact that they try to educate the 'Indian'ness' out of them that scares me. And not being able to speak thier native language at work for fear of reprisal. In the US and in Australia, the children of native people were kidnapped by the government and put into schools to 'Americanize or Australianize' them. They were forced to talk dress and act like a white, and they were beaten like dogs if caught speaking in their native tongue. It was terrible and a common practice through the 1950's.

  6. Re:Spaceship one is not orbital on More on Inflatable Space Hotels · · Score: 1

Well the inflatable idea is not too bad. NASA is using something similar. When they say 'inflate' they don't mean like a balloon. The modules that are inflated are usually solid on at least two sides like a cylinder that starts as a disc but as it is inflated it turns into a cylinder. Anyway, the biggest problem is not pressure proofing it but is instead a mixture of radiation and robustness. A fleck of paint smaller than a grain of sand, when traveling at orbital speed would hit a structure with a force greater than a bullet. The international space station has a soyez escape craft for emergencies and in addition they have two bullet proof (so to speak) modules where astronots and cosmonauts can hide out when meteor showers are predicted. Anyway, Rutans' design is brilliant when you think about what it does. But it is not expandable in scale. Right now it's enough to get in to space shooting straight up like an elevator, and then free falling back to earth. However it takes something like 20 times more fuel and power to even approach an orbital velocity and rubber powered rockets (with nitrous) don't scale as well as hydrogen ones. So the question is can a hobbiest rocket like a hydrogen peroxide or rubber rocket scale up in size to produce enough force to exit the atmosphere? The reason that NASA uses hydrogen and oxygen is that it has a much higher ration of power to weight. The downside is that hydrogen is highly explosive and pure oxygen can cause even something inflammable like metal to burn easily. Rutan's design uses nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and rubber for fuel. NOS is fairly inert by itself and rubber is not explosive like hydrogen. So it's a safe, inexpensive system that perfectly fits what it is designed for. Getting two 200lb tourists 65 miles up for the view of a lifetime and 3 minutes of free fall weightlessness. The complexity and cost go up exponentially when you try to place an object in orbit.

  7. Spaceship one is not orbital on More on Inflatable Space Hotels · · Score: 1

How would an orbital, inflatable, space hotel traveling at 32,000 MPH be able to accept passengers from a vehicle with no space dock, that goes straight up without gaining the speed necessary to orbit? The only way that would be feasible is if they built a vehicle at least as complex and expensive as a shuttle or soyez type space craft. It takes many, many, many times more fuel to get an object into orbit VS getting it high enough to briefly be in space but not fast enough to be in orbit.
