  1. My reasons ... on Converting Users to Open Source- Why Do You Care? · · Score: 1

My reason: Microsoft is evil --- taking for
granted that Microsoft's business and software
!= OSS regarding its'openness to software code
and its' philosophy about how to deal with a
    community.

One example as to why Microsoft's business
    practices are reprehensible.

Anyone ever use real-time stock based applications
    i.e. real-time quotes, charts?

Before Microsoft was banned, by court of law, from
distributing JAVA, all online stock brokers
used the Microsoft version of JAVA. Well
apparently this version broke SUN's JAVA and
therefore you had to use Microsoft's OS if you
wanted to use these real-time applications.
    Forget Linux, Unix, Mac etc...

Correct me if I am wrong, but one of the benefits
of JAVA was its platform independent
properties. Now Microsoft found a way to make
    JAVA platform DEPENDENT and therefore
destroying its main feature. In my humble
opinion, this is truly arrogant and completely
uncalled for even in a competitive business
    environment.

So whatever I can do that has a detrimental effect
on Microsoft's monopoly, I will. I would not,
however, encourage someone to use software
that is broken as a replacement to
    applications they already use.

That is just it, the US govenment has forbidden breeder reactors; unless something has changed. Funny thing is is that breeders produce much less radioactive waste. From memory, breeders utilize 97% of the fuel and we only use about 3% now; the rest goes into the ol' cooling pools. Relating to the story, I think it would be a great idea to produce hydrogen with breeder reactor tecnology and then store waste 200 feet under the salt flats.

modded interesting because lack of knowledge regarding radioactive material. I only skimmed the article, but I didn't see anything that said the radioactive material was leaked. If so, then disregard this. I think it highly unlikely that fish have eaten any radioactive particles which, if leaked, would have already settled on the ocean floor. Fish cannot be activated as you would the gold in soil, for instance. So, it probably isn't much of a danger in that regard.

Here is how it works and even more so in the Google ipo. The employeees and friends will get rich and you will try to make a little money. Quess what? Employees can sell thier shares the first day of the ipo? translation: NO lock-up period , they can dump their shares on investors by the millions causing the stock to decline. Google employees own more that 50% of shares outstanding: translation; you have no voting power in the company. You realise that Google has offered $3.00 for each share they illegally issued to their employees. But wait, the stock price is supposed to $100. :) Too many more problems to mention and Google should have just stayed private. Greed is really powerful! PS. Who would buy shares in the piece-of-shit ipo offering? Many will, but the only people that are garenteed to become rich are employees and friends. period! PSS. It is ok to be niave and idealistic, but reality and greed will often stomp all over those notions.

The articles I have read state that the dutch auction and the way this IPO will go was used so that the founders of Google can remain in control of the company. And I say "YEAH RIGHT." It will be a PUBLIC company, not a private company that sells shares to the public. However, from this article, the avaliable shares is reduced by millions and Google have already giving out more shares to its employees than it is selling to the public. So, in a sense, the founders will remain in control as they have more voting rights. But, this is BS, because when the shareholders don't have control of THIER company, then all decisions are made by only a few.
