So which U.S. prepaid carriers do you recommend for fewer than 30 minutes a month and no data?
T-Mobile prepaid plan is the cheapest per year (me thinks) - $100 gets you 1000 minutes that last for a year and remaining mins carry over on renewal. My parents have been on this plan for more than 3 years. They've never complained (N. California residents)
Don't listen to your computer-ignorant friends. GAIM IS THE SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!! AIM, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and Google Talk all suck (the program part). GAIM is THE BEST. Miranda is just bloated and the same goes to Trillian.
"They need good infrastructure". Absolutly. And in today's world, a good information system is right up there with roads and airports: it allows you to work globally, and the cheaper and higher quality it is the quicker you will be able to. Look at India, it's most important infrastructure to America is it's internet capacity and it's access to the tools of IT. And if you want africa to be successful, it will need to be able to access these tools as well.
Who cares? Xscreensaver sucks. Also, it really looks like neither him nor any of his posters have any idea what they're talking about. I mean, he claims that GNOME apps won't run on KDE, when that is clearly not true. Gaim, or gnomoradio runs fine on KDE. And vice versa. Kopete, KOffice, and any other app written in QT has run fine on GNOME for years. H's just another loud, annoying, Dvorak knockoff.
Just for shits and giggles, I just went and took the acid2 test with both of my browesers, Firefox and Konquerer. Neither passed, and the Konquerer one looked terrible. This is confusing, maybe its a Debian testing thing?
Trolltech gives qt to desktop users and to people who are going to write open source applications. Qt is open source. However, to use their libraries to develop closed source software, you have to pay their liscencing fees. It's all on their website, .
He says it would work well in schools and whatnot, but it just sounds insanely difficult to set up. I mean, doesn't this just sound like a 5 year old version of Red Hat or Demon Linux?
Having tried Ubuntu, I found it to be condescendingly locked down and hard to use, for example, when you look through the harddrive it opens each new directory in a new window, which is not fun in a Linux filesystem.
In addition, it has very few apt-get sources, making it hard to get a variety of software. Also, it's networking setup is trashm: it does not show up on windows or linux networks, and it has problems with sharing file and security.
All this aside, it does have it's pluses. It has good hardware support, and it makes Linux easy for newbies.
The GPL is great for the obvious reasons, but there is also the culture change that came with it. IMHO, the area the GPL influence most was the culture, enabling free software to truly be free.

Good work KDE, will gnome come up with Gsplice?
is a strongly typed, compilable python. Also, it should be able to handle memory like c.

As far as Microsoft goes, screw them.
Ubuntu; IT IS THE SHIT - don't even try to say that Red Hat is better.
the first Enterprise directory server on Linux was
Novell Edirectory (then called NDS)
That was more than six years ago!
Boobs!

Fuck off!
They weren't that bad. Their music videos were pretty good once you put the tv on mute (-:

Wow .... what a wonderful season for slashdot: When you can't tell the difference between the servers mistake and a post

You have to be 25 to rent a car in most places.
Man ..... Fuck you .... just ... fuck you

Wow... just ... wow
Not a good advertisment mind you, because a good ad has the words "TCO" and "life of contract" ( goddam pc magazine)
"Let me ask you, when someone comes up to you and says "I work at Microsoft" , what is your first reaction? I say sorry.
First Post! w00+!

C++ should start being taught at the 1 year old mark.
