Flying Spaghetti Monster! You have exactly described me and my situation. I work in government and the conditions, particularly the incompetence of my "colleagues" (yes, our CIO wants us to use that term).
Desperately trying to get out and into project management so if anyone has a lower-end opening, please give me a shout.
I'm pretty sure the limos are not considered part of the embassy.
The State Department says otherwise (in certain situations). According to their own document:
Diplomatic Agents. Diplomatic agents enjoy the highest degree of privileges and immunities. They enjoy complete
personal inviolability, which means that they may not be handcuffed (except in extraordinary circumstances),
arrested, or detained; and neither their property (including vehicles) nor residences may be entered or searched. (emphasis mine)
This comes straight from their paper, Diplomatic and Consular Immunity: Guidance for Law Enforcement and Judicial Authorities found at this link.
You can't forbid people to share information with other people
Except it's not sharing, is it? Sharing implies that one party is giving something they have to another person for a period of time at which point that something is returned.
No such process exists when people torrent movies or songs. The person who initiates the process by first making the item available does not have the right to give it away in the first place, and the people who then get their copy have on intention of every returning the product once they are done with it, let alone pay for it.
You can use all the semantics you want, trot out how piracy doesn't hurt sales and every other excuse imaginable, but the plain, unequivocal fact is you are not paying for a product that someone else produced, you have no intention of paying for the product and you think it is perfectly acceptable to not pay for something that someone else produced because somehow, magically, people don't need to get paid for what they produce.
I know what you mean. I get frustrated with all the drug dealers, thieves, tire slashers and whatnot in my area so rather than follow the law, I just go out and shoot them rather than lose my right not to be attacked or harassed when I go outside.
Same thing with my big, colorful billboard which says, "There is no God. Stop believing in myths!" which keeps getting torn down or burned. Rather than follow the law and get the police to do something, I just shoot those who try to damage it rather than lose my right to express an opinion.
Oracle sucks as well. It's just a different kind of suck. Sort of like the difference between a Geo Metro and a Ford Taurus. They both suck, just in different ways. (Did I get the car analogy right?)
while at the same time providing a much richer and usable environment for the other 90%+ users.
Right there is the problem. What the fuck does a "much richer" environment have to do with getting at what you want from a web page? How many times do I have to go to sites and wait while some shitty Flash video shoves itself down my throat or have to try and navigate through what should be simple dropdown menus, only to find that each site implements the menu differently?
Stop trying to give people a "richer environment" and let them get at the information they need. One shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to get a contact address/email/phone number or a white paper which might give you a clue as to why the company's software horfs all over Windows 7 but worked perfectly in XP.
People don't want a "richer environment" when surfing the web. They want to get on with their lives without having to guess which browser to use, or what plugin they might need or have to guess where things are. Stop trying to show off the latest and greatest, whiz bang web shit because you think it's cool and edgy.
I've personally saved two women's lives who were going to step out into traffic
In doing so, you thwarted natural selection and those women will most likely pass on their genes to the next generation who will be just as oblivious as they were, thus perpetuating the corruption of the gene pool.
Or was it more you didn't want to be splattered with their guts as they were run over by the cars?
Failed IT projects are hard to miss, though. A few are probably inevitable but if failures are typical, that should be a red flag to the IT manager's superiors.
Considering 68% of all IT projects fail, it would be difficult, using solely whether the project succeeds or fails, to determine whether the person at the top is competent or not.
Don't you know? The vast majority of the U.S. is on life support which is why we have all the commercials for every kind of pill and flim-flam product to cure what ails you along with having to pay for someone else's health care even if you're fit and healthy.
Their products are complete shite but they hold a monopoly over the market.
I'm glad you said that because having had the misfortune to deal with their software, it must only be because they're the big guy that they survive.
Their install procedures have essentially no documentation, their install process may or may not work and, as per usual shitty programming, most of their software requires users to be admins on their machines to work correctly.
Why oh why are people like you and the other guy I responded to so painfully incapable of understanding any kind of reasoning based on anything beyond the most simplistic of logic? It's the sort of reasoning you see from kids when they cry "He hit me Dad, so why can't I hit him back?".
I am fully aware of everything you said but the issue remains. Israel has repeatedly attacked its neighbors justifying said attacks as self-defense. Nowhere did I mention anything about Iran or Israel's nuclear programs. I mentioned only the fact that Israel is apparently allowed to attack anyone it feels like while if a nation which has been attacked tries to find ways to stop the attacks (witness Syria getting upgraded anti-aircraft missiles), then the world goes apeshit about how horrible it is that the country is getting these weapons.
The fact that Israel has nuclear weapons while Iran does not is completely irrelevant to conversation. Even if/when Iran acquires nuclear weapons, what then? Is Israel going to attack Iran because Iran, now has the capability to strike back in a meaningful way? Probably not.
Further, just because one signs an agreement doesn't mean one will abide by it. Going back to the Israeli nuclear issue, when Israel was told by the U.S. not to sign the treaty, part of the deal was that Israel would allow U.S. inspectors into the Dimona site at will, and without reservation.
Israel disregarded that part of the treaty and several Israeli scientists have since joked about how they obfuscated the inspections that did occur while hiding what they were really doing.
Back to the main point, Israel is the only country in the region, outside of Iraq under Saddam Hussein, to attack its neighbors. Between their near daily over flights of Beirut, at low level and with the attempt to cause sonic booms, to attacks inside Syria and Palestine, they are the aggressors but apparently that is okay. They're allowed to claim self-defense but not anyone else.
As to your final comment, if my kid (if I had a kid) was constantly being hit/attacked by some other kid, of course he could fight back. Or are you saying he should take it and turn the cheek, letting himself be open for further attacks down the line?
Given that Iran has a strong track record of exporting terrorism by funding groups like Hezbollah and has threatened to wipe Israel off the map
Given that Israel has a strong track record of attacking its neighbors without provocation by claiming self-defense and has threatened to continue to do so. . .
If it is acceptable for one country to attack its neighbors while claiming self-defense, it is acceptable for one, or all, of those countries to develop technology to limit or halt such attacks.
I mean this stuff combined with a sedentary lifestyle is basically slow or not so slow suicide.
Yeah, so? It's their life. They can do what they want with it.
Besides, they'll just let someone else pick up the tab for their healthcare.
Ahh yes, because one's lack of self-control is the reason we should implement a law telling a company what size cup they can serve their drinks in.
Should we tell car manufacturers their cars can't go faster than 75 mph too while we're at it?*
Again, we're trying to find a technical solution to a human problem.
* Have to make sure to get in the car analogy

The question was whether a limo is considered part of the embassy so that Assange could get into it and still be protected.
At least according our State Department, the answer would be yes.
I'm pretty sure the limos are not considered part of the embassy.

Making it "not searchable" doesn't stop that. Shooting the people who are making it does.
Just a minor correction.
Except for the ones that use Oracle.
Oracle sucks as well. It's just a different kind of suck. Sort of like the difference between a Geo Metro and a Ford Taurus. They both suck, just in different ways. (Did I get the car analogy right?)
Liar! Everyone knows that if you give software away for free you don't need money.
That's why you don't have to pay for movies, songs or programs any more. You just go to Pirate Bay and get them for free.
You must be living in a fantasy world if you think money is needed to make software.
Had you paid attention, Leslie Winkle has already told you where to put the electrode:
Leslie: You stick electrodes in a rat's brain, give him an orgasm button, he'll push that thing until he starves to death.
Leonard: Well, who wouldn't?
Leslie: Well, the only difference between us and the rat is that you can't stick an electrode in our hypothalamus. That's where you come in.
You have to remember, half the population have two digit IQs
So now we're using IQ points as a measure of how smart someone is? I thought IQ tests and their results weren't a true measure of ones intelligence.
Either IQ tests and their results are a true measure of ones intelligence or they're not. You can't have it both ways.

KISS. That's all you need to know.

For reference: The study
how many dildos or related items will be printed?
Don't you know? The vast majority of the U.S. is on life support which is why we have all the commercials for every kind of pill and flim-flam product to cure what ails you along with having to pay for someone else's health care even if you're fit and healthy.
The studio must have real faith in the movie if they're doing it in 3D.
Their products are complete shite but they hold a monopoly over the market.
I'm glad you said that because having had the misfortune to deal with their software, it must only be because they're the big guy that they survive.

Shit and monopoly seem to go hand in hand.
Second option: Windows XP. It's patched, simple to use and stable. The complete opposite of Windows 7.
Whenever we have issues with Windows 7 I always tell folks, "If we could upgrade to XP, all these problems would disappear."
Why oh why are people like you and the other guy I responded to so painfully incapable of understanding any kind of reasoning based on anything beyond the most simplistic of logic? It's the sort of reasoning you see from kids when they cry "He hit me Dad, so why can't I hit him back?".

Cheering on the TSA and hooting it up for the Patriot Act.

The best part is that this is all for one person living alone. :)
No, it's either sad or pathetic (depending on ones point of view) that one person should be so tethered to technology rather than reality.
