Perhaps this is the reason why they(Microsoft) won't allow the BBC iPlayer on XBOX? They want to charge for it but the BBC charter/rules won't allow it. Will Microsoft make the BBC an offer they can't refuse and get them to switch to their DRM method? But the BBC can't make you pay for stuff you view via iPlayer?
There is a patent on reading text out loud using a Cmputer or other similar electronic device. If adopeted here in the UK then bang goes the Talking books for the blind. The'd never be able to pay the extorsionate license fees.
Why fail?
As is runs on a conventional PC the DRM will be hacks in hours if not days s othe publishers will pull their titles. Then the patent tolls will fire up their pencils and sue this into oblivion. There are patents on reading a text already. I'm sure that every toll and their dogs will be out in force to get a bit of their action on this.
Sorry for being so negative but I feel sure that there are just too many vested interests to let this succeed.
As a Bike rider since 1969 I can attest to the worsening fuel consumption figures in modern bikes.
My 1969 650cc Triumph TR6 in touring trim gets over 80mpg.
My 2004 780cc Triumph Bonnieville gets 50mpg
My 1963 650cc Bonnievile gets 60mpg with 10.5:1 Compression pistons and race tuning.
Many high performance bike these days have worse consumption than many cars. This is a crazy situation.
I'd probably plump for a leccy bike rather than a hybrid for my commute to work (Some 30miles each way)
Seeing them racing round the "Island" in june was really great.
If Motion Picture makers are opposing a treaty that concerns people who a frigging Blind.
Excuse me Mr MPAA how exactly are Blind people expected to SEE (with working eyes naturally) your esteemed works?
Why would these business really oppose a treaty that would make life easier for one section of society. Are they afraid we would all rush out, buy some eye patches and learn braille?
Imagine being able to run 48 copies of solitaire or Notepad at once?
Oh silly me. you can do that already.
Apart from Vidoe type apps this is a pure server type CPU but unless Intel can sort out the memory access there is going to be an awful lot of cache misses and waiting for data & code from RAM. Unless, it has 10Gb of L1 cache.
The funny symbol (a C with two lines in it ) is the international symbol for the Euro. You know that funny currency that is in use in a bigger trading block than the almighty US Dollar. Ok, not all EU countries use it but places like Germany, France, Italy, Spain etc use it and have done for over 5 years.
At the moment, the Euro is regarded as a more valuable currency thant the USD.
They'll probably just dosconnect the failed one and plug in another one. Remember the costs per kilo of getting payload into orbit. IMHO, using only laptops makes common sense.
I normally would not give the time of day with this bunch of cowboys(>£10 in phone charges just to cancel a landline) but if they do take legal action over the latest silly idea to come out of Darth Vader (aka Mandy) I'll support them.
IF the EU has told the French that this goes against the EU laws why the f*** does NuLab think this will also pass their scrutiny. Dumb idiots.
Politicians don't dream up these crazy ideas. They leave that to their boot licking, grovelling Civil Servants. The politicians presentthem to the press most oten at weekends and watch them get shot to pieces. Those with the minimum amount of damage become Government policy.
I fail to understand the reasoning for this in places where Amazon already has a huge operation (eg UK)
Ah well, If they screw us up so much then people will find a way to get, sorry pirate or hack the US Editions and then watch Amazon cry fould as the whole thing is a mega flop just like the Zune is outside the US.(just an example)
When will the so called international companies really view the world as one big market and 'do the right thing'.
I certainly won't be buying one of these. I urge others to boycott them until the functionality is restored.
Apple will sell you (£20.00 here in the UK) a USB to Ethernet adapter. I have a Mac Mini (allbeit running Fedora 11) setup just like this as my main system Firewall & DNS, DHCP Server. I also have another PPC (bought off Ebay) that acts as my main fileserver. I have a Lacie Firewire Drive that is the same formfactor attached.
They'd patent the sh1t out of it so it is 'stuffed up' for the rest of us. Remember that the US Military are exempt from patents awarded for work funded by them. Then all Microsoft need to do is make 'The Internet V2' standard in Windows 8 and watch pretty well every company fall over backwards to implement it. They would control who the licensed 'Internet V2' to thus kille FOSS, ORacle and probably Apple in one stroke of the pen from the US Patent Office.

A bit dangerous if you live in a houseboat.

Come on Microsoft. Remember the problems you had with the EU over Documentation.
Why don't you ever learn? Why don't you document everything and release it at the same time as the software?
Other companies seem to do this quite well (release of docs, not its quality).
Fail again.
I think that somewhere in the Microsoft World of Fantasy, 40ft barge poles are probably legal tender.
Nah, the TRUE answer is 1.618 not 42. Well, 42 is ok if you have had a few too many.
Google for 1.618. It is the divine proportion
I should have added the two words 'out loud'

"If the suckers can afford our crappy O/S(aka Vista)" then they can afford
- More RAM
- bigger Hard Drive
Same argument goes for Windows 7 except the HDD.
Yes They WILL SELL YOU ONE.
It is the only way you can connect a MacBook Air to a wired LAN. You know the thin laptop that only has a single USB port.
I suggest you search on Ebay for one. You may be pleasantly surprised.

It is partially a US Company as its share are listed on the NYSE

IMHO, that pretty well counts.
Also, the do have some significant LOCAL(to the US) subsidiaries espeically in the LA area.
