A Popular vote may sound like a good idea, but it would mean that the fate of 50 states would essentially rest in the hands of the 5 or 6 most populated states. The population distribution in the U.S. is heavily skewed toward a few states like CA and NY, so a candidate wouldn't give a damn about states like Nebraska or Montana if he or she were elected by popular vote. The electoral vote's purpose was to allow all states to be represented
I recently finished Crime and Punishment. I think that was the first book I've honestly read the whole way through. Up to that point, I would use sparknotes quite liberally, which worked out fine, but doesn't contribute to any *personal* satisfaction.
What does anybody think of Blackice? I find it pretty good, expecially since it can detect malware trying to tunnel through IE or any other legit program. But the "outbound protection" is based on a list of trusted programs, and any unknown or modified programs are stopped. It's not based on detection of *outbound* traffic, but it seems like a good approach. Heck, it could detect and stop viruses and spyware from running as well.
Has anyone noticed that quite a lot of these knock-off/spyware/rip-off programs are ridden with broken ESL English and horribly incorrect grammar? One could root out this crap just by refining their english skills.
Four words: "It takes all kinds". With the immense...*cough*..variety of people on our lovely planet earth, it's a given that a couple are stupid enough to give in to spam.
I never get any spam either. I got one email he other day that looked like spam, but it didn't have anything in it. (And i have my email set to display plain text only, so no web bugs to worry about)
standard size horizontal banner ads are the single most inginious form of internet advertising, except, of course, for the strobing *you are a winner* ads. But Mozilla can take care of those pretty easy. If there were only banner ads, it would be so much better.
I have BlackIce PC protection for my firewall, and it has a feature to block unknown programs from running. A pretty good defense against spyware (and viruses for that matter), eh?
I don't want to imagine how fried my brain is going to get from this, straight out of johnny pneumonic. Geez, the keyboard and mouse aren't good enough for ya?
I guess there's some loophole for sending text spam without being charged, because wouldn't the spammers get charged bigtime for sending millions of texts? I would think charging for messages would deter spamming in the first place. And do people really get charged for recieving messages? how stupid is that? the person who sent it got charge already (right?)

Just make the phone firmware so that it won't let any unauthorized programs run in the first place.
yeah, I like the suite better than firefox
When i first glanced at the headline in my newsreader, the words "missile launch" made me look twice...

Shake: "You mean I've been lugging around a giant radioactive *check*?!"

Actually, I do believe I heard Kerry call for a sunset proposal for the Patriot Act, although it could just be campaign talk.
