Contrary to what you might believe, there is nothing unethical about making money. The government even gives out grants for entrepreneurs, and lets them keep all the profits; it's good for the economy, overall. The profit motive is a much more powerful incentive to positive social change than the goodness that lies in the hearts of men,

The total percentage of Microsoft employees who use the Microsoft search engine isn't a fair comparison, since Microsoft's flagship product isn't their search engine. (I'm not so sure what it is, but it's not their search engine.) On the other hand, Google and Yahoo are both defined by their search engine. Only a fraction of Microsoft Employees are at work on the search engine, and the search engine isn't a deeply ingrained part of their corporate culture. Not so with Yahoo and Google. And, even ignoring this, who cares what the people at the company use? That's like assuming that the haircutters which people who are haircutters use are the best haircutters. Preferences are idiosyncratic. I would much prefer to see an article assessing the objective strengths of the different search engines directly, instead of this corporate-interest story.

Another delivery trend, which harkens back to the good old days of kozmo.com, is Max Delivery. They're primarily focused on delivering movies, but will deliver anything. Their MO is to pick up stuff from a variety of stores and deliver it to you. This reduces their overhead, presumably. Also, they use bike couriers. Delivery.com is a pretty good solution for ordering food online, although all they do is fax your order to participating restaurants.

Well, you're doing a pretty good job of sounding like a Nike ad. Sure, a culture conducive to doing something will help people who grow up within that culture do that thing. Just another unfair advantage which the scrappy Teutonic and American underdogs will eventually have to overcome. I can't wait for bright lines to be abolished in all sports, allowing all top-level competitors to do anything they want to do to enhance themselves for peak in-game performance. I don't care about the safety of the athletes; if they're going to be paid such vast sums, I want to see some reality bending performance, and their health and safety be damned. Actually, the real threat is that the targets of affirmative action will internalize low expectations. This could foster a cultural trend of underperformance (an example: Stereotype Threat").
