You can mount any cleanly unmounted ext3 filesystem as ext2 by any kernel with ext2 support(it doesnt need any ext3 code at all, compiled without ext3 support, years before ext3 ever came out). ext3 is backwards compatible, meaning using it does not preclude you from using that filesystem as ext2 with ext2 drivers. It has nothing to do with moving ext3 drivers into an older kernel.

ext4 conversely will not be completely backwards compatible, which means you cannot simply mount a ext4 filesystem as ext3.

I repeat this has nothing to do with moving code into older kernel versions. This is about backwards compatibility.

Well if you had a clue, you would know that this is in reference to the fact that you can mount a ext3 file system as ext2 from a kernel that doesn't have support for ext3. It just doesn't journal. They were simply stating that this rather useful feature that made ext2->ext3 migration so painless will likely not be as simple in ext3->ext4 migration.

Work accounts for 50% of my gas usage. My car gets 31mpg on average(requires premium gas however) and is a car I enjoy very much, so i don't feel the need to change cars.

Whats the next suggestion, stop doing things on the weekend?

Bottom line is that gas prices matter, and I do my best to keep costs down. Hence the 31mpg car, buying gas from the cheaper stations, and using a cash back credit card(5% on gas purchases) and paying it off before any fees or interest are applied.

I think its funny that people can very easily say "oh move closer to work", "get a job closer to where you live" or "just buy a more fuel efficient car" as though any of those things actually translate to overall savings. Buying a new car would cost me more than I'd save. New house, holy crap even more. New job, ain't any jobs as good as the one I have now near home. Ultimately the people who suggest this kind of tripe either can't do the rudimentary math or are talking trash from the parents basement on a computer bought by their parents dollars.

You make 3 assumptions and I only consider one of them to be right. $3 gal is the one I'd consider "right". I get 31mpg average in my car, and only ~50% of my driving is commuting to and from work. My commute is 82 miles(41 each way).

I'm definitely saving more by doing this commute rather than moving closer or getting a lower paying job, but that wasn't the point of my post. The point is that when I pass one gas station that says 2.90 and the next one says 2.94, I make sure I get gas at the one thats cheaper. Furthermore I cheapen my gas expense by paying for all gas purchases on a Credit Card that offers cash back(5%) on each purchase of gas(I pay the bill each month before any interest gets attached).

Above all, what i'm saying is that gas prices matter, a difference of a few cents at the pump stacks up to a sizable difference for me at the end of a year.

I also don't agree with regulation, other than forcing competition. Currently there is far too much consensus between gas stations over the prices they charge at the pump.

The reason we care so much is that many of us spend more on gas than any other commodity. We consider it as essential as food. And its price varies wildly from season to season. Then YOU call him... now YOUR call is being tapped because of who you called. That's the way it works. Otherwise the government has to have permission to tap both parties phones. That's ridiculous.

How about this just means the conversation can only be used against the person who had a warrant issued. Lets say they are tapping mafia don Al's phone, and I call Al and say "yo dude I just killed a guy" they should not be able to use this phone conversation against me in court.

This seems logical to me since the warrant was not issued to find evidence in a crime that they suspect I committed and is (likely) outside the scope of the warrant that was issued.

This makes perfect sense, as the only other alternative would be for the government to own all forests, to prevent crazy landowners from destroying everyone else's enjoyment.

How can you even remotely consider that a landowner actually OWNS that land if he does not have the simple right of preventing others from taking its resources without permission? Berries on MY land are MY berries, if you take them, you are stealing MY berries. What you have described is simple, homeowners have 0 property rights.

In practice, it means you can't start posting stupid signs telling people what they're allowed to do. Just like that website couldn't...

Yet its ok for other land owners to post stupid signs telling me how to use their land? Example: the government is a fairly large landowner, and streets are riddled with signs telling me to stop, slow down, no left turn, one way, do not enter.
