Addiction by defination is a "strong emotional and/or psychological dependence on a substance"
Therefor I don't think a person can be addicted to religion, how can you be addicted to something that is not real?
Food on the other hand, might qualify as a biological built in addiction. You feel aweful if you don't eat. You are also programmed to seek food out. If you don't have daily dose of food it really interfers with your life - for example you die. Talk about negative side-affects.
I have signed up for the service, taken some pictures and posted the screen shots on my blog.
If you don't want to see the picture, I edited the article slightly and posted the words below:
Google just rolled out a free web traffic analysis service named Google Analytics. You can catch the story at Slashdot. I have just signed up for an account. First full report is compiled after 12 hours, but in the main time, I can see a lot of buttons to play with.
You can choose to view vital numbers from "Executive", "Marketer", or "Webmaster" point of view. There are so many functions I don't know where to start. Let me show you an overview picture.
There is a pretty screen with 4 pictures to the top right. It shows you the webpage overview and covers "Visits and Pageviews", "Geo Map Overlay", "Visits bv New and Returning", and "Visit by Source".
"Geo Map Overlay" is interesting, it shows the general location of where people is viewing your site. It uses javascript, so if your visitor has it off, you won't can see the location. Also, the display is in flash for some reason, so make sure you have macromedia flash. If you use Firefox, the popular plug-in AdBlock will block flash, you need to disable it. Firefox viewer can find flash plugins. I just use Internet Explorer for now, it works just fine.
The service is the most powerful and flexible I have seen yet, even from paid service. I have been using StatCounter for months, but that free service only provides stat for your previous 100 visitors. Google 'limit' your free account to 5 million views a month, which is plenty for the average joes. If you go over 5 million, your website can most likely make you enough money to afford a pay service anyhow. Even better, if you have an AdWord Account and tie Google Analytics onto it, you have "unlimited" capacity!
I will keep both webstat for now. StatCounter updates in real time while Google Analytics updates webstat once an hour. By keeping both I can choose to tap the information whenever I want. Also, I have StatCounter setup as "Public", so visitors can see webstat in real time. The information visitors see from StatCounter is the same as what I see as a webmaster. Google Analytics seems powerful, but it doesn't let me share the information real tiem like Stat Counter does. However, you can choose to export your stat from google into txt, xml, excel, or print it out on the spot.
Google never cease to amaze me, they come out with free products better than many paid services. As I write on this free Blogger Platform, logged by free Google Analytics, and being searched by Google Engine, I can't help but praise - Vive Google! Google !
Now that Intelligent Design is a "scientific theory" Creationism is nothing more than a branch of theory under Intelligent Design, same as Flying Spaghetti Monster - just another branch under ID.
Theory means you put the concept under a microscope and examine contridictions, ambiguities, and mistakes.
I can see a teacher now justified saying in calss, "Children, creationism, a branch of ID, is nothing more than a theory. There are many holes in it. For example:
#1 Genesis 1 tells us that the first man and the first woman were made at the same time and after the animals. However, Genesis 2 states that the order of creation was as follows: man, then the animals and then woman.
#2 Genesis 1 sets forth six days of creation, but Genesis 2 speaks of the "day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens."
#3 Genesis 1 states that the fruit trees were created before man, but Genesis 2 indicates that the fruit trees were created after man."
Now children can be exposed younger to the errors in Gensis 1&2, two of the more if not the most contridictary Bible chapters.
I know how Christians argue that Genesis 1 is the creation of concept unversially and Genesis 2 is the creation of specific on earth.
But do you really expect little kids to note the difference? What ever taught first to the little kids is the concept they will accept. And you have just passed on the education into science teacher, whom let me assure you, will not all be christians. Good Job!
Intelligent Design might have won this round. But they don't know what they got themselves into - they have just made creationism a mere branch in a fallible theory as suppose to unquestionable divine guide.
You might have thought our founders seperated religion to protect science. But I see the seperation as a protection of religion from science.
You won the battle, but you might have just lost the war.
China actually has a long, brutal history of tyranny and oppression, with a history of more "slaves" than the West ever had in its worst moments.
I am having a hard time verifying that comment, because I have been taught as a Taiwanese that China historically has a large population of peasants class and fewer slavery when compare with other country historically. The example given at the time was Egypt, also one of the few 5000 year old civilization.
I have seen a lot of people saying China is known historically for slavery, but is it really base on some actual research or is it base on recent sentiment towards communism?
