It should bother you, it is not all about how much of an impact it has on your wallet you know. It is about pollution also. Twice the fuel consumption is means twice the CO2, NOx, SOx etc let out in our air. Unfortunately most people are too ignorant or too stupid to factor this in when buying a new car.
Perhaps fuel prices are too low in the US (US people probably disagree, but we basically pay the same price per liter here in Sweden as you pay per Gallon in the US) it makes people mindless of how much their car drinks -> how much it pollutes.
The smart is a great car for it's target group, which is probably singles or couples living in urban areas. It is small (easy to manouver in traffic and to find parking space), cheap to run and don't pollute the already bad air too much.
I guess we could more or less give US over a century at North America. Which would put them on par with Genghis Khan
Are we talking about the same US? Do you mean the US who has destabilized South America during the last decades. That had democratically elected goverments be overthrown to be replaced by Military dictatorships who then proceeded to kill thousands of their citizens for disagreeing with their ways?
Are we talking about the US that caused the bay of pigs, who invaded Grenada, who invaded Panama etc etc.
I guess this goes to show how hard it is to decide who is good guy and who is bad. It is all a matter of view. Presonally I do not want any of that kind of "Pax Americana" imposed on me.
Why would I bother with this when I already have an alternative that is free of charge, more secure, and has more content?
You wouldn't and people won't I think. It is a great buisness for the record industry since they leave the distribution to us, the public, and just collect the cash for themselves.
The one way this could become a hit was if the user providing the download got a small percentage of the price, for the bandwidth provided. Then maybe it could become something. But that, on the other hand, would open up all kinds of possibilities for fraud and deception.
According to the FA thought, you have to make over $90.000 to be exempt, which makes sense really. One could argue that with that kind of salary, the overtime is included.
Otherwise they (management) could just slap the word "engineer" to the title of everyone and exploit overtime rules to thir hearts content.
But, hey, that seems to be exactly what they are doing here...
He lives in California. Thanks for your reply, having it tied to the drivers licence makes much more sense. It is not something you easily opt out from.
(This is a intended as a serious question by an uninformed but curious European (me))
I spoke with an American friend of a friend a little while ago and we talked about the upcoming election amongst other things. I brought up the usually low participation numbers in American elections and he have me a suprising (for me at least) answer.
He beleived that first of all, a lot of those that stay home are educated, well of people. And secondly that a large reson for them to stay home is to avoid registration which in turn avoids the risk of being drafted to jury duty.
So my question to you is, do you beleive that registration and jury duty is a factor that makes people stay home on Election day? And if so, should not that system be reformed so more people voted?
Bah, If they are to sue Apple and other MP3 player manufacturers then why not sue everyone that makes CD players also since they could be playing illegally copied CD's. Not to mention manufacturers of CD/DVD writers. They are all pirates!!!
It might be worth mentioning (not that I think you are serious or anything) that people have gone down to Nigeria to get their money back, and have been murdered by the scammers.
I wouldn't go there even with 10 bouncer friends, but then again, I wouldn't fall for a Nigeria letter either.
That is like defending burglary because otherwise we would never develop satisfatory locks for our doors.
Sure, we must realize that there will always be malicious people and we need protect ourselfs within reason. But that doesn't condone the actions of the perpetrators.
Burglars suck and need to be punished.
Virus vriters suck and need to be punished.
Utopia is a world where no one needs to lock the door or install virus protection. Just because utopia doesn't exists doesn't mean that we should support that which makes it impossible
It would be nice but I think there is too much speaking against it.
First of all I don't think it would be an easy port to make considering how M$likes to intermingle it's OS with it's applications. Office is bound to be using alot of OS specific API's, com objects etc... If the main selling opportunity would be low priced copies to the third world, then maybe they don't think it is worth the cost.
Thirdly I think it would be to much an admittance of defeat for M$ to aknowledge Linux that way.
20 miles a gallon doesn't bother me too much.

So SCO is like the Coorporate USA version of Baghdad Bob?

It is the physorg website that is /.ed not the University of Queensland.
:o
Here is the article at the university, which is still up. (for the moment)
Not very much extra information though.

mmm, that should have been a reply to "Virus writing is NOT evil.." by Andr0meda. *blush*
