Except for the fact that this is really just an excuse to teach Intelligent Design (read: NOT SCIENCE) in science class. ID belongs in theology/philosophy classes, NOT biology.
And yes, this is part of why information should be free to all, if it can be copied at no cost.
But we weren't talking about information, were we? Get off the soap box--there's nothing inherently wrong with charging money for the items under discussion.
That's still a pittance though. If the court actually cared about upholding the law, they would fine these companies more than they could possibly pay, ultimately forcing them out of existence.
Aside from the fact that the US has never had unregulated capitalism, you're right.
There are pretty much no free markets anywhere, except for places like Somalia, where the government is too weak to interfere with the economy. Citing the US economy as an example of free market economics is capital ignorance.
Very true--"indie" has become a completely corporatized/meaningless word, much like "Alternative"/"Alt" in the 90s. I have to use the unabbreviated "independent" to describe bands like Withered (from Iceland) (whose label is now defunct.)
I remember when I was playing "The Metal" on Expert, in whichever venue first unlocks that song, there were two big ads for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles off in the distance on either side of the stage.
I want to tell you to get off the soap box, but you're partially right. The in-game ads in Guitar Hero III were completely immersion-breaking for me. It's a small part of why I've stopped supporting that series.
Advertisements don't always break immersion though--series like Madden and Tony Hawk would be really cheesy if they lacked ads for real products/companies like what you would see in a real football/skateboarding arena. I don't have a problem with publishers capitalizing on this, and it would be insane to expect them not to.
Also, the banner ads in the Battle.net lobbies never bothered me very much--I'd get into a game and forgot about them.
GH3's story, if you must call it that, is just a cookie-cutter series of completely forgettable cutscenes that might as well not be there. I for one don't want a story getting in the way of playing the songs. It's a music game, not an RPG...story is completely irrelevant. I also thought the guitar battles were really stupid for this reason.
RB1 has more diverse character/instrument customization than GH3, though GH:WT may outdo RB2's largely recycled customization.
GH3 and RB1 both had online quickplay and offline-only co-op/world tour...don't compare apples to oranges. Now RB2's Tour mode is 100% online and GH:WT's Career will be as well.
You must not have played Rock Band 2...the window of opportunity for strumming guitar notes seems much smaller. The setlist also has a better difficulty curve for guitar, instead of just [easy song, easy song, easy song,..., green grass and high tides]. But you're right, Guitar Hero definitely has a much more competitive vibe than Rock Band. What's up for discussion is whether that's a good thing or if it's just obnoxious...
Funny, I've had just about the opposite experience with my instruments. My RB1 guitars do just fine, but I had to replace my GH3 guitar because the buttons died after 9 months. And on my new GH3 guitar the green button sticks sometimes...anecdotal evidence is funny, no?
I did snap my first RB drum pedal though...fortunately it was covered under warranty and I bought a metal reinforcement for the new one.
Also, No, Harmonix made fake plastic guitar popular outside of Japan. And I'm not sure what GH does so radically differently from RB to "create gameplay around the instruments" and "[have] better gameplay." Care to fill me in?
It truly reflects the failure of the education system that we, as a society, lack these fundamental skills. You might be able to find one critical thinking/reasoning course in college if you're lucky....but really, these kinds of courses should be required throughout a K12 education. Logic and causality should be taught in high school as well.

Neo-Nazis are good things to have around when you need somebody to ridicule.
Learn the difference between "lose" and "loose." One applies to you, the other applies to your mother :)

The websites that execute all of that stupid code on your computer are what's intrusive--not NoScript.
That's still a pittance though. If the court actually cared about upholding the law, they would fine these companies more than they could possibly pay, ultimately forcing them out of existence.
Amazon affiliate stores are still around--I visited a site that ran one over last summer. Never seen the affiliates in a google search though.
You're absolutely right! That's the exact point I was trying to make.
....whoooosh!

Has this IBM invention patented itself yet?

I rarely use it but I don't understand the hate either. It's easy enough to ignore when you don't need it.
"Obscene" is the big weasel word there. I bet if Facebook's moderators were pressed, that's the rationalization they would use.
Probably because they lack seniority in the company. That's how things usually go when it comes to layoffs.

Not to mention FEAR 2: Project Origin which is coming out early next year.
Yes...but if I did that in my dorm, the IT people would still be able to trace traffic back to MY ethernet port...

You must have felt really silly when Windows 2000 came out...
Anyone else find it humorous that a blatant ad hominem was modded to +5?

They're blasting him because the right thing happened for the wrong reason. Sadly that's usually how these things go...
vi vs. emacs arguments are pointless.....vim is the best.
