Or you could grow up a little bit and see the utility of what was going on here. Get off the soap box--denying the Taliban the press they wanted was the correct thing to do. Your adherence to ideals might have gotten this man killed.
Dr. Luca Tommasi and Daniele Marzoli from the University of Chieti in central Italy, observed the behavior of hundreds of people in three nightclubs across the city where they intentionally addressed 176 people in either their right or their left ear when asking for a cigarette.
Yes, it is a flawed study. Anybody who believes this *should* be made fun of.
Are the engineers responsible for the FPSes you put down not doing art in their own way? Surely in a more practical fashion than in the fine arts, but like any kind of design process there is a certain art associated with a successful creation. Much like the architectural design of a building, the implementation of a game engine (or a board game, etc.) is not cut-and-dried like an algebra problem--there is a lot of room for creative thinking. Furthermore, doesn't the bloody satisfaction of "[killing] shit with rocket launchers" qualify as evoking emotion in the player? Such a game is not going to bring about a renaissance of the human spirit, but evoking an emotion/sensation in your audience is at the core of what art is about.
Games don't need to tell a story to qualify as art--it's just one way that they can reach that status. For instance, flOw has no story to speak of but is utterly mesmerizing, both visually and auditorily, and was designed to bring the player into psychological flow state. If that's not art, I dunno what is.
Except that in the music world, "Indie" is the "Alt" of the 2000s--it's a term so overused that it's well beyond useless.
Because of multi-platform games and digital distribution, the relationship between a game developer and their publisher is very different than the relationship between a signed band and their record label. I don't think the availability of games like Braid, Blueberry Garden, or The Dishwasher on mainstream platforms makes them (or their developers) not "indie."
I actually get really infuriated with my Verizon phone for giving me little to no warning when they're going to shut themselves off. What's even worse is that when I turn it on to try to make a quick call, it shuts off again without even letting me dial.
I've been thinking about getting an iPhone next year, and a feature like this is very persuasive. Hopefully Apple will license this technology to other companies, or the competition will copy it.
I know that there are publishers that make their textbooks available in a web-based format, such as Wiley...but Wiley's textbooks have gotten pretty terrible, at least at college level. Hopefully California will be able to find a better product in this vein.
I've submitted stories before only to have them rejected up to four days later. That's probably not what happened here. Shame the editors don't like my submissions.
Forcing all your employees to move to a different country does NOT maximize the value of the company. This is an example of the typical short sighted, bottom-line thinking that gives US corporations a bad name.
I betcha most of them would rather quit and find other work--tech jobs are not suffering in this economy, so MS employees are not beholden to Ballmer's whimsy.
I hope Ballmer follows through on this though--I'd love to see Microsoft go into a Chrysler or GM-style decline...well, without the bailout at the end.
Thanks for promoting gender roles/stereotypes. Acknowledging "counterexamples" does not change the fact you are stereotyping men and women as acting in certain ways and having distinct preferences on the basis of their sex.
Uh...not sure where you're getting that idea. In addition to getting people a (hopefully) healthier product, selling BPA-free bottles is an excellent way for the businessmen to get people to replace their "indestructible" bottles!
Companies have been ditching BPA on their own...government intervention is unnecessary. If you wanna whine about government catering to business interests, you're definitely barking up the wrong tree.
It really shouldnt be surprising that google earth has caused some controversy, they already label Taiwan as a province of the People's Republic of China, so they have already made political statements with the program
YouTube is seriously one of the worst things to ever happen to the internet. Everyone hotlinks to youtube, creating a single point of failure--if the youtube video gets pulled, it's IMMEDIATELY gone from most of the internet. The copyright holders get way too much power from YouTube's popularity.
Whatever happened to streaming videos without a centralized, copy-preventing flash object?
What you're saying is correct--a 3.5 GPA seems rather high though, at least out of 4. It undoubtedly varies by school--a 3.5 at a school that works the students hard is very different from a 3.5 at some party school.
My anecdote is that I go to RPI where the average GPA is ~3.14 (lol pi.) The career center and employers I've spoken to all say that higher is better, but you're golden with a 3.0 or higher.
Except being "certifiable" is meaningless, because this proposal is being used for a completely dishonest purpose--imposing religious beliefs on people.

That's it man, game over man, game over! What the fuck are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?

Not if you believe that consumers should be protected from misleading information.
Now IBM is going to patent the USPTO itself!

Are we fucked, or are we really fucked?
Antivirus companies: The world's only legitimate malware vendors.

That's some supercritical thinking.

Your lines in the sand don't really make a difference--he can still ruin his life by playing the game too much.
3.5GB. And no, no mass market user needs that.

Otherwise they can go out of business, and then where will you get your information?
From somebody else who knows how to purvey information and still make a buck? Just a hunch.
To hell with the AP if they're going to go the route of the RIAA.
