Need a lift in the morning? Have a refreshing glass of seawater!
Despite what DarkHand says, THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. Please DO NOT try this. The high concentrations of sea salt and other dissolved minerals destroy the benefits found in drinking ordinary water, making the drinker at risk of salt poisoning and even dehydration!
I can't believe the editors are allowing such dangerous advice to be posted on Slashdot, of all placed!
It's actually kind of satisfying to read a book and destroy it afterwards. I like to rip out each page as I read it, and throw it into the bin. It makes it feel like you're actually absorbing the book.
Though you don't have to buy these new computers, of course. It's not as if "obsolete" computers stop working.
Of course, the situation you mention will make piracy more difficult. But it won't make DRM any more secure, just less useful to circumvent. Which I suppose is the point.
Just what the hell are you trying to say? You make no sense.
"IMHO the Japanese are really a big bunch of different people from much of the world culturally."
Your wording here is atrocious. I think you're trying to say that Japan is different from the rest of the world, but what exactly do you mean by the "rest of the world"? Try to realize that America is not "the rest of the world." Do you think that most Americans understand more than a few words of any language other than English?
This article isn't about translating games into Japanese. It's about how Western-style games are NOT INTERESTING to the Japanese culture. Or is that what you're trying to say?
Or, better yet, you can get fully automated AI robots to do the mining. Just don't be surprised when, hundreds of years later, they destroy the Earth when they demand to meet their maker and we can't deliver. Maybe it'd help if we used stain-resistant paint this time.
That's nothing compared to the problems that would start once space tourism becomes popular. Just think... the millions of visiting tourists will have to use the bathroom at least once. This is why it's vitally important to get a receipt.
Ah, okay. I'm based my post on something I heard years ago, and I received the impression that it was a trivial "there goes GSM's security" crack.
I was wondering when someone would finally start encrypting the content rather than the signal. Though maybe we don't want to get into the whole Clipper Chip thing again.
It's because the machines live in a world that's based on rules. But us humans know that those rules can be bent, even broken.
It's a contest between creativity and speed. Do the machines incorporate metacognition in order to adjust their strategies and perform optimally, or do they just follow one dumb algorithm over and over? That's where the difference lies. Speed of computation might work sometimes, but other times there's a much simpler solution just waiting for someone with a flexible enough mind to see it and adjust their strategy to use it.
But don't worry, once we divine a sufficiently advanced human cognitive model and implement it in software, the machines will be unstoppable.
The talented folk who do [art and graphics design] well all have jobs doing it for a living. So they sure aren't going to want to do it in their spare time....as opposed to the programmers who program in their spare time?
I think it's primarily a difference in mentality and subculture. A lot of these design artists don't have an 'open-source community.' Why this is, and why the two communities are different, is left as an exercise to the reader.
Or ship 'em off to the prison camps! Hell, better yet, into the incinerators for them all! That'll teach 'em to act up.
Schools try to cram everyone into the same-shaped slot, which is obviously BAD. But parents seem to think of school as some kind of daycare. And it shouldn't be. Maybe they should care about their kids a bit more and pay attention to their schooling. But either way, schools have to assume some responsibility for these parents' kids in their absence.
Remember, kids that age can't think for themselves. Or, at least, that's what they're told.

Looks like the Sleeper can't awaken anymore!
Yes, but what good will scraping a windshield do when it's stuck in a pool of molten car?
Only minor detail ....creating an elevator cable that can handle the high temperatures.
Diamonds Are Forever, baby.

Call it a destructive read process.
I didn't realize that the entire purpose of life is to get a date.
Sounds like you may have to release yourself.

Good games never become obsolete.

Hmph. I guess that even a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, humans were lazy.

It's a serious question, monkeyman.
I mean, just how does Luke understand R2 while he's piloting his X-wing to Dagoba? It's mind boggling.
I think it's simpler than even that.
Most people use Windows, and most people are stupid enough to run any unfamiliar program that they get their hands on. A virus is propagated.
Though this is more exclusive to trojans versus worms, which exploit user stupidity (b) versus security holes (a) respectively.

Wasn't GSM supposed to be encrypted as well, but the algorithm was found to be extremely trivial to crack?
How long until that happens with these technologies? I'd hope a long time, for $4000/pair.
It doesn't take a hacker to make a slanderous web page.

A member of a rival football team.
Geez, some people need to get lives.
Yeah, he was approaching 100% CPU usage, and init couldn't even stop him!
Now that's what I call a monopoly.
Since when is public transportation for poor people?
But anyways, if you're poor, then you don't really have a choice, do you?
"...a very lifestyle positive environment..."
Hearing things like this make me sick. Who on earth decided to use a phrase like 'lifestyle positive'? Ugh.
Is that supposed to happen?
