Math is easier in metric because of its simplicity. Saying "divide a foot and a metre by 3 and tell me what makes more sense" is offtopic, anything besides a factor of 3 divided by 3 is evil, thats no fault of either metric or impereal systems. If you want to measure something small then metric makes ALOT more sense, because you can express the size in scientific notation, i.e. powers of ten, so say something is 3 nanoMETERS thin, i could just say 3*10^-7cm, or simply 3nm thin. Now, tell me, how many inches (i dont know any smaller impereal measurement) is 3nm? 1.18110236 × 10-07 inches says google calc. Tell me which looks better to do math with, 0.0000003cm or.000000118110236 inches?
Since when were km french? You must mean your TheRestOfTheWorld-to-BackwardsAmericanWay cheat sheet. Notice how all science stuff is in metric, it makes more sense (Powers of ten).
but thats the whole point of the/etc/shadow... passwords... everything else is in the public readable/etc/passwd. In a network with more than 10 users you want to keep a backup of the/etc/shadow somehow.
What are the chances of those bacteria dudes actually coming in contact with mars. The universe is like, big, like kilometres big. alot of killometres. maybe more than a thousand. bacteria are like nanometre big. or smaller. i dont know. dont care. crazy stuff.
wow, sounds like bullshit to me. If it was pre-programmed with blah blah blah, then how would it find out how to recompile itself for my x86-gnu-linux arch? it would need to port it not only to a different cpu architecture but a different OS. its not possible ATM, sorry. Prove me wrong, please.
NeXTBox is cooler. It could run NeXTBOX as its OS, and then those crazy gnu's could make openBox and OPENBOX and a whole whack of crazy naming schemes. Then Apple would buy out MS's xbox division, and make the xbox not look ugly. But it would cost 4000$. People would complain. Then they'd come out with a 499$ version. People would complain that they can get a Nintendo Revolution 2 for cheaper, but savvy readers would notice you get more games bundled with the OSXbox, and that it comes with more controllers.
Imagine MS releases source to something like their win32 API, or at least part of it. Then they sue WINE on the next feature that comes out. Sure, it may be soemthing general (They both used the word 'int' in their code:) ) but its still a setback for opensources PR, and with good lawyers and dumb judges, it can be dragged on for forever (SCO vs The World) until the EFF has no more money to give WINE.
Microsft doesnt like open source things. If MS open sources something, they are up to no good.
Um? Like which ones, for instance?
Opener, to name one. ASTrojan to name abother. Why is there OSX antivirus software? (Which I'll admit is useless, because viruses aren't a real threat on OSX, even if they exist)
Okay, that's just not so. Linux is positively buried in litigation. Is that so? What "litigation" are you refering to? The SCO trials? If you are refering to the SCO vs The World trials, then I'd get of slashdot pretty fast. SCO has been ordered to prove their claims, and as of yet has not. Just a company burning up what little money they have left out of spite. Linux is not in the courts right now. Not at all.
You mean it was a joke until they started to do cool things, like OSX (BSD/Mach core, very cool) and open source alot of important code (Hell, they have a liveCD of their Darwin kernel for x86, evn tho the hardware support is crap) and make the oh so cheap and neat mac mini? Things change. IBM used to be teh evil, now their fighting SCO, opening patents and embracing linux.
Find a PC for the same price with comparable features. Most people point to Dell/HP/etc boxes. They always end up having crappy integrated graphics cards, and things like that. You won't find a PC for a comparable price. (Remember to factor in software. The mini comes with OSX, which has software for everything, and for what it doesnt have, it also comes with iLife '05, and a few games too. Windows boxes come with WindowsXP, which has um, solitare, spider solitare.. and then CD's full of shareware. Boo.)
Imagine how much money they would make selling their OS for ~200$. Now imagine what they make now, even with their tiny market share, selling 3000$ minimum machines:) Apple would lose so much money moving the PC platform, its not even funny.
People already do, check liksang

I really hope your joking, because otherwise, I hate you.
Can you imagine the author, trying to keep a straight face? Poor guy, he wrote it so professionally
The b-b size / size of earth ratio is slightly bigger than the bacteria size / size of universe ratio.
What are the chances of those bacteria dudes actually coming in contact with mars. The universe is like, big, like kilometres big. alot of killometres. maybe more than a thousand. bacteria are like nanometre big. or smaller. i dont know. dont care. crazy stuff.
Screw save games, just give the user a password to get back to the level. Simple. (Just kidding)

uhh been on slashdot to much lately sorry

its part of a new ad revenue campaign. studies have shown that users are more apt to click ad's when they see bold text in the site.

No shit? Their implementing a standard. That's the point.

Um, your being sarcastic, right? Incase your not...
:)
-The OSX core IS open source, along with alot of other parts Are you forgeting that OSX is based off BSD/Mach?
-Although OSX is very cool (I've got a mac mini, love it to death) it actually does have a few viruses, contrasted to the none on linux.
-There aren't any lawsuits over who owns the linux code. It's owned by the people who wrote it, which is easy to find out, and otherwise it doesn't matter because it's GPL'd.
If you were serious, please check your facts next time. If you were joking, then sorry for ruining the joke.
Uh yea, this is slashdot dude, just look at the microsoft icon :)
It was a joke, laugh.
The same place you can in the budget Dell. Oh wait, you cant. If you want a PCIE 6800GT then you are not the target audience.
I think you misunderstand the concept of patents.
Check out Apple's latest quartly results. Their hardware buisness is growing, so we don't have to worry about any implosion for awhile at least :)

Somebody mod this funny, haha Sony, actually listening to customers? Bahahahahaha
