Firefox/IE are applications. Compare that to trying to make/extend a window manager. Sure, IE runs faster sometimes because of so much of it being built into the kernel, but the window manager (Explorer) in Windows is completly built into the OS (it basically is the OS in Windows's case). All this guy is doing is throwing up an openGL window that takes screenshots of windows, and uses them as textures for the inside of a sphere. Looking Glass, as one example on *nix, is in a much better posistion because it can be a full fledged window manager, because it justs use X as a window server.
Saw this a lonnnnng time ago. Installed XP just to try it. What I found :
-Extreme resource hog
-The designer knows nothing about UI design (so many different actions, even if you can customize the controls. Needs to be simplified)
-It's ugly.
-You can't even use the windows while they're in "3D " mode
Just a poor windows developer trying to make some competition to Looking Glass. It's too bad, because it'll never work, unless MS does it and integrates it into their OS. (It would probably be really buggy coming from them though. I hate to say it, but I'm looking to Sun for the first 3D desktop)
The gameplay in Doom was spooky. It was fun and challenging. Multiplayer was fast paced and awsome. Doom III flops compared to it. Like, I'm not saying Doom ever was a fountain of great gameplay, but like, you'd hope a sequal would at least come close to its predesecors standards. Otherwise, whats the point? Anyway, that's all IMO, and really besides the point because I was joking around before, just taking the obvious cheap shot at D3:)
I agree. Currently, my main system is a P2 / 266mhz. I spend all my time programming games and stuff, works fine for me. Sure, I could go on one of the family PCs, which are P4's, but this one is in my room and runs fast enough. (Then again, half the stuff I do I have to move to another PC to test it, because either my CPU is too slow or GPU doesnt support some feature) I ordered a mac mini, can't wait (3 weeks till it ships, so says apple) xcode will be awsome.
Lol I made fun of every system there, how does that make it a fanboy response? Katamari Damacy is very fun, but only because Japannese people are so scarily messed up, not becase the PS2 is anything special (it would work just as well on any system, hell it's got N64 graphics) Rez? Boring. Jak? Uninspired. If I had a dime for every boring Generic Platformer OF THE YEAR for the PS2, I'd be like, crushed under the weight of dimes.
Last time I checked, the average PS2 user was a self proclaimed 1337 (never play online with volume, its worse then XBL) Then again, xbox users are the "mature" (note the quotes) and PC players a fat, smelly, and can't spell. I'm starting to think that Nintendo players are the only normal ones. Then again I've never seen a Nintendo player online:)
but yea, that whole traditional gaming spirit stuff is bullcrap, your post gives me diarrhea.
so what good is it to them? Too many morons believe in security through obscurity, and is why so many sites get hacked. Until you can convince them to write good code instead, then they have a "reason"
The only part of the picture it screws with is the pixel directly where the dead one is. 1 dead pixel out of 1.3 million doesn't make the tiniest difference with graphics.
Dead bits in RAM is an actual performance and stability issue. Dead pixels are cosmetic, and barely so. (Unless there is like 5 or more, then its unacceptable)
LCD's get dead pixels. It's a simple fact. It's not something that they can control, and it would be silly to reject a 20' moniter because of one dead pixel. You would never ever win a case in court because you had 1 dead pixel out of about 1.3 million that are on a 1280x1024 screen.
The gaotse man was a programmer? Wow. Wouldn't want to touch his keyboard.
RTFA dude.

amen. Fucking compilers flying out of no where and making me pee myself. Fuckers.
That's nice, but what does that have to do with his questions?

So what happens when the spark falters, or goes out?"
Then you make a game like Doom 3. Seriously, great tech, bad gameplay.
OSX, and better way then to go and buy a mac mini.
Heh, russian communism was supposed to be the natural evolution of democracy, skip a few generations. That worked well :)

I can see one mistake in your post.
:)

The rest seems fine though.
It's actually a cheap PC too
No offense, but his wife doesn't want to run Linux. Trust me. (This isn't a troll)
Umm, try and picture putting the harddrive into a mac mini. Think it would fit? Barely. I believe it uses laptop drives.
Apple shuts down their store during the keynote. I think it had a few issues coming back up though. I ordered my Mac Mini fine tho'.
/me hugs his Mac Action Sack
They're great to play on linux, and I can't wait till I get my iMac Mini, then I can finally test out Anvil and Forge.
Your a moron. I think humour should be banned from /., because obviously some people just dont get it.
so what good is it to them?

1. A TV channel
2. A TV show
3. Because people watch TV shows
Now heres my question for you: Why the hell are you bothering to post in the story if you have no idea what its about? Get a life man.
