I can't wait till the xbox get's even cheaper so I can build an xbox cluster (Not PS though, too hard to program on, plus xbox is x86 so no porting of code needed) but it'll be awhile before I upgrade my "cluster dream" from dreamcast to xbox *sigh*
As someone who goes alot of game development, I think the DS offers more for developers, and is MUCH more appealing to program on. At first all the stuff looked gimicky, but it's really starting to grow on me. It should also be easy to program on, it's based off the same architecture as the other gameboys, which is fully documented on the internet and very easy to understand. On the other hand, anything sony has made has been difficult to program for, ask ANYONE who has, you spend way too much time reinventing the wheel and doing more micromanagment then you would think possible. They haven't said if the architecture of the PSP is the same as the PS2 yet, but I'm willing to bet it is.
I never said they should be released right away. Having older stuff GPL'd is fine, at least they're doing it. Most developers DONT release their game GPL after its dead and buried. Warcraft 2 would've made a great opensource game. I wasn't critisizing them for NOT doing it RIGHT away, I'm just saying that by the way the worded it, it sounds like they have no plans to release it GPL if it actually becomes anything.
No, because iTunes is like a constant advertisment for iPods and all those new iApps that have to do with media. They're trying to spread out, get more noticed by the public (70% of the people I know don't know about apple, and think macs were really old computers that don't exist anymore, or they think of those G3 laptops) It's just a big strategy.
I agree with you. They say on their site they haven't decided if it will be opensource or not, which i basically see as "If we hit it big, then screw open source and the GPL, but if this turns out not so great, then you can have the code". There are some things that just shouldn't be opensource, but then somethings just fit perfectly (OSes and game engines) and you can still sell a game that has opensource code, because of the maps, models etc that it contains, and still be within the legal limits of the GPL (indeed, games like quake (1,2 and soon 3), doom (1 and 2, eventually 3) and Marathon are all opensource, but you still can't play the game without the CD for the maps and stuff. (I guess you could steal it, but thats not cool, if a company supports opensource then you should support them;)
Sounds cool, and the screenshots look awsome, I just hope it isn't your standard RTS that has been defined by warcraft.... I'm gonna keep an eye on this one though, looks promising..... Oh, and it says that they haven't decided wether or not to go opensource, so maybe a little poliet encouragement from/.'ers would help?;) It would be nice to have it OSS tho', I don't think there are any other opensource RTS's, and there is a large untapped market for MMORTS games like Mankind (the company would just have to run it better than Mankind was)
Google defines "game" as
"an amusement or pastime; "they played word games"; "he thought of his painting as a game that filled his empty time"; "his life was all fun and games""
(Well thats the first suiting definition)
If the players enjoy playing Deer Hunter XXIII and GenericFPS 12 then who are you to say they dont get it? They're playing a game for fun, and just because you (rightly or wrongly) want more uniqueness in your game does not mean that it isn't fun to them (as fun is a completly relative term)
Just for the record, I too get bored of the same old thing, just trying to get it from a different POV:)
There's alot of debate on that, some people don't even think pluto should be considered a planet. A good way to classify it is:
Planet - A really big rock with a sane orbit around a star
Moon - A smaller rock orbiting a planet
Comet - a rock with a highly ecentric orbit
Asteroid - a tiny rock that isn't in perfect orbit with a planet, or is just floating around orbiting the sun or something.
I guess the scientists like to say they've discovered moons, because discovering asteroids sounds much less cooler. I know *I* would call them moons;)
er when i said ignorant programmers i was refering to the ones that made the games antiviruses etc, not the MS ones (although I doubt they're ignorant too)
How is that list more interesting? I don't care about bugs accessing OS/2 servers and crap in the 64bit edition, but I think it's funny that the MS firewall messes up.net stuff, outlook stuff, office stuff, firewall and antivirus stuff (theres some good security features) and even games. Now, those errors are the fault of ignorant programmers, but still, they could have implemented the windows firewall in a smaller scale (as opposed to blocking all the ports)
Obviously your new to slashdot or something. In a few years when every skript kiddie and their grandma are making SHA-0 and MD5 spoofers in VB.net (not that it'll be around that long (jokes, jokes) ) then I think we can ask you again if it was news worthy.
Oh, and by the way, it wasn't a brute force attack, some one in the forums explained it clearly.
Actually, Mario64 was a pioneer in 3D graphics. The 3D games on the PC that came before it either had a) bitmaps for enemies (like doom) or like 2 or 3 enemies at once (quake) and I can't think of one that had wide open areas like Mario64 did (it was quite a feat, really) and M64 still had pretty damn smooth graphics.
Oh, and it was definantly a pioneer for console graphics, it was definantly the best game as far as graphics go for either that PS1 or N64 for a long time, and remained in the top 10 for a long time......
On the rest of your stuff, yeah, it is a story, and it's really nice to read something good coming out of the Big N's mouth.
NurseJane@hospital ~$ mount/dev/patient_heart/mnt/heart
mount: mount point/mnt/heart not found.
NurseJane@hospital ~$ that can't be good.
-bash: that: command not found.
Alot of people of there bought it just for the DVD player. That's one of the main reasons Nintendo didn't put one in the gamecube -they wanted to sell more games, because that's where the $$$ is made.
Why would they spend the money to put in a RW drive if it's going to "be a blu-ray RW drive hacked to be a Read-Only", I might be wrong but putting in a BR-RW drive would jack up the price quite a bit, and only brings bad things for sony (i.e. pirating)
The patent was filed 6 years ago. It had to do with plans for the 64DD.
It was filed in 1998 for the 64DD. If they had filed for it in 2004 then I would agree with you.
Well, my spacetime folding machine works better, light speed travel is SOOOOOO 80's.

A good move? It's only a "sale", it's not going to stay at 50c, they're just trying to draw customers away from iTunes.
search for "define whateverwordyouwant" it just uses dictionary.com or something.... but if google says it, its good! Just kidding...

Sorry, I meant redifined. Too many RTS games have came out that are numbingly similar to WC3. In any case, you know what I meant ;)

Its windows EMBEDDED, not windows. They wouldn't have solitare and that crap on them.
For any good developer? Yes. For the Sony-Hype-Machine(TM)? No. Not at all.
