    What a stupid statement. This is not an unreasonable request, and is something that the US gov should have done a long time ago. Microsoft has produced such shitty browsers, they should in fact be banned from being allowed to produce such an important piece of software. Time and time again, even with ie8, they have shown themselves inept at producing quality, standards-oriented software.

    I am pretty sure that if you have never played some games, then you are not missing anything. Maybe your life revolves around games, but not everybody's.

    The great breakthrough for flash I think was video, the fact that we don't need an embedded object like Quicktime or shitty Windows Media Player has made browsing a lot safer and stable.

    If you need to go to the extreme, then you are probably wrong.

    There is a step between no filesystem wear level algorithm, and one for every single drive manufactured.

    That is the obvious solution, have some filesystem algorithms. Let the hardware tell us which one we should use, and use that one. Not such a big problem, is it, happens all the time.

    Ok, good example, but it is the very first time Microsoft has made something so easy, good on ya Micrsoft, golf claps.

    The reason we have a problem with this, is it is the first time Microsoft has done this, and every single other step of the way they have done the opposite, and been very closed.

    So Microsoft are losing on the Zune, Xbox 360, so they decide to open it up, and complain because nobody else does.

    Then on the stuff that they are winning, OS and Office, they keep it very closed, and a very strong control on it.

    No, what Apple does is not as important as what Microsoft does. Who really cares if we can't write our own version of iTunes, it is a very different matter to be able to connect to a Windows computer. These are not equal issues or companies. What Microsoft closeness has done for the IT industry is so much bigger than what Apple has done.

    Maybe it isn't fair in your head, but it certainly is fair to bash Microsoft in the real world

    To be isolationist about it: this is a stimulus from US taxpayers for the recovery of the US economy. Open Source knows no borders, stimulus into open source will benefit the whole world, not just the US.

    Just because something helps the rest of the world, doesn't mean it doesn't help the US as well. Like developing new CPUs, I guess you would ban that, since it helps other countries as well. What an idiotic way to look at things.

    There are loads of jobs for PHP and MySQL, Apache, Linux, these are open source. They mean a lot of companies can exists and hire programmers without having to pay Microsoft for their inferior products.

    And working in a university we produced loads of open-source software for Grid Computing, like OGSA stuff, Condor, etc...

    So maybe you can stow your ignorance somewhere else.

    Monopolies often start out that way, offering a superior service. Then, since they are a monopoly, they don't need to try anymore.

    Now if Google stopped trying, and became inferior to Yahoo, Microsoft's offerings, then they would lose a lot of business. One of the reasons that it is clear that Google is not a monopoly. Having a large part of the market does not make you a monopoly.
