There's something WORSE than the Treo 700w? Where I work got 5 of them, and they lasted less than a week before the users were screaming at Verizon to take them back.
Whoever decided to hide the reset switch on a windows mobile under the battery door was an idiot.
Funny enough, the second generation chip the MediaGXm, didn't suck much at all. It's just basic VGA though, no 3d, but much much faster than I expected. I have a 233mhz GXm, and it does quite well running win2k.
Nvidia is the same way for mobile chipsets. Have to patch the.inf file to get it to install on my Compaq with it's GeForce4MX. And of course, once you install the desktop drivers, they get all confused as to what resolution the panel is.
Laptop graphics are painful. Period.
When I first started working at a local computer store in the "lab" we got one irate lady whose son had really destroyed Windows 95. She had something against my boss, and kept making a big stink about the computer being defective and demanding that we build her a brand new machine, and claiming that I didn't know what I was talking about. She eventually cornered the sales manager and yelled at him for an hour or so, and as soon as she left the store I got called into his office.
The sales manager was upset of course, and started chewing me out, but after about 5 mins he asked me what I had to say about it all.
"There's a difference between bending over backwards for the customer and bending over forwards."
He turned beet red, pointed at the door and I left. I never heard another word about the incident.
I ran a mail server on 64bit Centos (dual Opteron 244's) and dovecot for IMAP and POP3 access. Dovecot does not seem like like Opterons, and I had ECC errors and strange hard locks of the system. Same machine with the 32bit release of Centos is rock solid.
How about because I use my wireless network for more than just my DS? It's not that I need my Mario Kart packets secure, it's about my laptops and server being secure.
I know it's a testbed, it's just shocking that it's at version 5 when it seems like only yesterday that it didn't exist at all. We are talking initial reactions here, right?
Except when Fedora was announced, they were very upfront about what it would and would not be. This is not a general purpose distro. If anything, I'm impressed they've kept the schedule. And the Fedora works at all.
I'll go back to my Centos box though, it might not be as flashy, but if you're running Debian stable, you aren't looking for flashy either.
Umm, didn't you notice that Fedora is the development testbed? It's supposed to update quickly so new things get tested before RedHat gives them to paying customers. If you're doing real work on Fedora, I feel your pain. Switch your servers to Centos, and save Fedora for playing on your desktop!
Centos + Dag Wieers' repo is a sweet setup. Dag, if you read this, thanks a lot for great packages.
Heh, I remember RLL vs. MFM. The only difference was the hard drive controller card, a buddy of mine would run the 20meg MFM drives off the RLL card to get 32meg on them. Of course, my 20meg Seagate only lasted about a week before it tanked, and when I returned it to the store the only thing they had in stock was a 70meg Micropolis so I went home with that. Talk about never being able to fill it!
Exactly. Movies that branch from video games tend to be terrible and vice versa. Maybe one day the game will get to use the same textures they used in the movie SFX, but how does sharing digital media improve the game or the movie?
We're a Novell shop still. I know it's "Stone Age", but there's one thing we'll never want to give up. Salvage. That right there makes up for just about everything at least once a month. Netware might have been a pain to setup, but we sure don't have to deal with it very often.
Of course, since we've already got quite a few Linux based services, tying them all together with E-Directory is sweet too.
As anyone dual booting Windows and Linux knows, everytime you reinstall windows of the non-ancient type, it rewrites the MBR (blowing away your bootloader that lets you dual boot.)
Yeah, I guess you could call that a "anti-virus" feature and not a "anti-competitor" one.
The v4.0 (which I have) uses a SoC that combines two chips from the v3.3. It's pretty much exactly the same software wise, just cheaper for Linksys to make.
Funny. I bought an iBook and it came with a program called "DVD Player.app" which plays DVD's. I didn't have to pay extra. I didn't have to go buy it, it was just there. When I reinstall OSX from the restore DVD, the "DVD Player.app" comes with it.
Sounds like you paid quite a bit for it to me. The MPAA got their cut already from Apple, if you could download OSX legally and without payment, it would not come with a DVD player.
I second that! The iAudio X5 is a great player, the sound quality is excellent, and it handles all my oggs without problems. The touch pads on the ipod's don't like me anyways, so I like the little joystick on it.
Only compliant I have about it, the playlist functionality on it is a little rough. I use winamp to make the playlists on it, but iTunes it ain't.
Oh, and one more thing, the output on the X5 is good enough I can hear every compression artifact in a 128k mp3. If you get one, start using FLAC or rip at at least 192k a sec. This one can use the extra quality.
So, they're saying the newest 3D renderer can run the engine at a higher resolution? I never would have guessed on my own.
Looks like the "Patch" to make Xbox games run on the Xbox 360 might just be replacing the engine, rather than trying to emulate x86.
The OS that's the most fun to install (when it likes your hardware) is OS/2. The installer dumps you into the desktop right off the bat, and things just start appearing. First program installed is solitare too, and you can play while it installs the rest of the OS. That was so cool coming from DOS and Win 3.1 on my 386sx/25.
Of course with Nintendo, if you just buy the console and ignore all the games, they've already made a profit and can just laugh all the way to the bank.
I'm having so much fun with my DS I'm going to have to try out the Revolution. The Metroid demo is just amazing, it works so much better than I expected. I'm very curious to see if they can make that TV remote like controller work.
How would that fulfill anything? Mr. Thompson claims playing video games makes you violent, not that OTHER PEOPLE playing video games makes you violent. If he does go off the deep end like that, there's no excuse that will cover it.
Anyways, I'm in a good mood today, I skipped the violent video games last night and went to the range instead. Some of us don't have a problem understanding the difference between Quake and a 8mm Mauser.
While you are at it, tell them we'd like A: and B: back to use for something other than a floppy.

It's the dd-wrt project, not WR-DDT. Great package though, I run it on my v4 WRT54G.

Ha! You should see my R3000Z. It's a 15" Widescreen at 1960x1200. Only paid $700 for it, now if only the video was upgradable from the GeForce4MX.

Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner!! You'd get even better performance if you can force WoW to run on a single CPU instead of hopping back and forth.

Ha! I have you beat! They let me play with automatic weapons here and administer Linux boxes!

Heh, I have a box full of Matrox Milleniums and Mystiques just for Linux servers. And my precious G400Max still works. Oh how I paid for that.
