You mean like the cahoot webcard? It's an annoying flash page I'm afraid, but basically it generates a new number for each transaction you make, making fraud virtually impossible. (It's a UK bank, BTW)
Actually, you can get Night of the Living Dead for somewhat less than $1 at archive.org. For some reason they messed up the copyright on it - so it's in the public domain.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I actually like the overpriced cartridges printer manufacturers try to flog you. Why?
1. I can buy a very cheap injet printer, subsidised by the manufacturer.
2. I can then buy extremely cheap third party cartridges.
The thing about overpriced original cartridges is they really open up the market for competitors to produce cheap compatibles (if they can get around the lock-in code, of course). Do you really think Epson compatibles would be as ridiculously cheap as they are now if Epson had charged a sane price for their cartridges in the first place?
It's a stroke of genius. Add a couple of annoying timestamps and screw the aspect ratio up, and it'll give people even more incentive to see it at the cinema as well.
I've used it a few times and didn't get any spam, but you can never be certain what they'll do can you. If you're worried, use it with a yahoo address or similar.
Students have proven that all it takes to obtain reams of personal data is Internet access, a few dollars and some spare time. I hear owning a certain large, well-known media website does the job too:

Nowadays, a lot of 'hacking' is motivated by money. Think of online bank fraud, spam mailing, DDOS-to-hire, etc. I'm sure there are people out there who would put a lot of time and effort into writing exploits if step three was... profit.
How much do you think is the average salary for someone with a degree vs someone without one?
I've heard this one several times. People with degrees earn more than people without. But is it actually the degree that helps you earn more money, or is it just because most of the smart people go to university anyway? As my statistics teacher used to say, corellation does not imply causation.
Makes sense to me.The car's the processor architecture, and the driving's the coding. Anyway, you forget, this is slashdot - car analogies get mod points.
Sorry about the errant 'sudo'. You need to run both commands as root.
To speed up startup, you could try ooo quickstarter, and/or prelink office, which is what windows does. On Ubuntu/Debian you do this:
/usr/sbin/oooprelink -f
apt-get install prelink
sudo

I find opera lacks one particular feature of firefox:
- Is open source and free
I agree. Only three letters - but it adds an extra nine syllables if you have to pronounce the address.
Surely "Ask Slashdot" is the ultimate in outsourcing labour - you've got to give the guy credit for that.
Actually his cousin, I believe.
Actually the odds could be even better than that (as good as 3/8), depending on how many of each sex they wanted.
(Hoping my maths isn't too rusty here.)

Well yes, it all looks very official. But what happens when you click on 'News'?
If you don't mind a few adverts, try http://www.yousendit.com/ - sends files up to 1 GB.

Yep, I enjoyed that at the cinema, 7 years ago. Not what I'd call recent. What else has there been? A Beautiful Mind?
I think you mean Swordfish.

I think we might have found out why Sarge is taking so long now...
I'm more worried about...
what happens if you plug a legacy PC into your network.
Anyone remember the Etherkiller? Great fun at a lanparty!
No!! Wrong type of 'correctional institution'!
I don't know that a business can be depressed in the emotional sense of the word
