Won't hold water, I work with and also personally know people that fall under those requirements and they should NOT be in possesion of cell phones - let alone ANYTHING more advanced than an abacus - not to mention they are assholes (there goes that 'polite' requirement). Degree != competence.
I was wondering if somebody was going to mention this. No need to download a proprietary app - it works with any phone that can send sms or mms messages.
When all the 'big boys' blog scripts either had too much fluff or not enough features, I took it upon myself to write my own, learning more in-depth PHP and mysql in the process. My blogging tool doesn't have features that I'll never use (no plugins or cruft taking up server space) and I don't have to wait for developers to create something that I want in a blogging tool (if I want it, I'll add it..even if it means learning something new).
Same here. I use Windows at work because the Powers That Be said It Is So. My file/MP3 storage server at home is Ubuntu and my personal computer is a Mac running OS X - the beauty and USEABILITY of Mac with the power FreeBSD under the hood if I need it. A geek-artist's wet dream.
Out here in BFE, there is a small coffee shop that has one computer, open wifi and a 4 port for customers to access the internet. Their prices aren't any higher than any other coffee shop that DOESN'T offer free wifi internet. Another coffee shop in Portland offers hardwired ports and wifi, the only thing they ask is that customers buy at least ONE beverage/food item. I visit both shops regularly and I often see the same people taking advantage of the wifi and plugged-in, as well as new faces, too. Even though the coffee shop here in BFE doesn't ask that customers buy something, I always do.
I just see it as Mr Young showing support for another alternative to MS.
The underlying code for OS X is open, Linux code is open.
Publicity? Sure. But also a show of solidarity.
I agree. I worked at a place that, even though it paid excellent money and most of my coworkers were good people, being there and doing what I was required to do made me ill.
I did, however, get something else lined up first and made sure I had a 'cushion' in the bank account to cover the salary hit.
Yeah, but you're getting Microsoft's guarantee that the viruses will infect everybody in your address book, get your internet service blocked by your ISP and wipe your hard drive when it's through!!!
"I know when I was a kid, we had a few raised (molded) topographical maps (? somebody help me out, I can't think of what the right description is) sitting around."
It might be worth your while to check the web site for PDXLAN.
Check out the event pages AND the community pages (forums, etc). EXTREMELY successful (started out as the creator's CS project, IIRC). Read through the forums, the news items...you'll see what they did differently each year (changed things that didn't work, improved things that worked, etc)
I've seen some pretty wacky compile "messages".
I don't remember the exact wording, but one was something like "checking for signs of life..."
This was mid-compile, not something you'd see at the very beginning. Sadly, sometimes I find myself sitting in front of a console for an hour, watching the lines of code fly by jus to catch one of these messages.
As others have already said, focus on the businesses, not the city.
Check out The Personal Telco Project, started here in Portland,OR:
Personal Telco Project is a Federal tax-exempt 501(c)(3) and an Oregon non-profit organization. We want to facilitate partnerships with local businesses, and in doing so permit the raising of funds though tax-deductible contributions.
100 nodes and growing.
One of the coolest things here is that you can hang out in downtown Portland's Pioneer Square and surf wirelessly, thanks to local businesses "donating" their wireless bandwidth.
Yeah they can be, indeed:) My brother and his fiance have a ridgeback puppy (hah! At her shoulders she's above my waist!) - She's a big softy though, if she knows who you are. No "ridge", so she can't be AKC, but her temperment/disposition was why they got her in the first place.
I read about this two days ago on reddit.com and grabbed a screenshot of the ad before it inevitably disappeared... http://flickr.com/photos/ghoti/2412827108/

The Motorola SLVR L7, the ROKR, the V3i w/ iTunes. Apple doesn't need to make an "iPhone".

I had ZERO problems running Automatix.
Very nice little app/script to install on Ubuntu.

Folks, schemanista will be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress.
Girlfriend 1.0 may or may not be compatable with the Girlfriend 1.5 Bonus Pack.
Excellent suggestions.

In this case, the M in RTFM means Magazine (article). Yeah, that's the ticket.

Took some pics of the eruption from the vantage point of our neighbors front yard.
They're not the greatest (had the camera in 'point and shoot' mode - had to act fast, yanno), but I did tweak the brightness & contrast to get a better view of the crater and plume.

No drugs, man; Ive seen the message. I've seen it a few times w/ different programs (or the same program, when I've recompiled a new version).
