  2. Not all jobs can be outsourced on Ask Slashdot: Would You Take a Pay Cut To Telecommute? · · Score: 1

Not all jobs that involve telecommuting can be outsourced. I do a three month call rotation. When on call, I'm available 24x7. The 5% of the problems that require a site visit require me to get there within 2 hours. Try that from India! The two hours a day I drive to work and back are gone from my life forever. What a waste, sitting in a car.for 2 hours a day, every day for your entire life. Gone forever.

Sorry to disagree. I;ve replaced my porch lights for 30 years, every other month until I finally tried a CFL. I was skeptical with the weather swings. Guess what, after two years and -25 F in Vermont, it still is going strong. Yes a little slow to start but the light of 60W equivalent is just fine.

Our CIO literally stays up nights worrying over potential security holes.

My advice is not to get too chummy (overtly) at the work place, making it too family oriented is not all good. Keep the work professional and "on task" keeps folk as better more productive workers and happier, of all age mixes. Yes, you can still have fun but your there to your job to do.
