Population is necessary to avoid extinction. You have to have a large population or your species goes extinct. People who say "Linux should only have one interface." are also saying "People should only be white, with blonde hair and blue eyes."
Complaining about problems with Linux and Criticizing Linux, and hating Linux are two different things.
I critisize Linux all the time. I'm very tough and very disciplined even with open source projects. (and yes, many of them could use some lower case D discipline.)
Hating Linux is what happens when you post lies about Linux. Which many people do.
Attempting to fix this would draw legislative fire from congress. The Congress vermin get too many "campaign contributions" from these industry monopolies.
Linux exists and is a powerful force. I'd call that a victory. A few drivers and plugins are not open source. but the majority of software on the Linux desktop is. I never expected all Linux software to be 100% Open source.
I have a rather complex Mandriva operation myself, I've talked about it before. Anmd You are wrong. totally wrong. You can install autotools, automake, and all that other stuff.. Thats a dependancy of the rpm-build package. I have all Mandriva 2008.1 domains up and running, '
I am currently chasing an ALSA buffer under run in D2X-XL.
But anyway. Yes my machines otherwise work fine. This person is probably having other issues. Like, bad DNS redirection.
Notice how the first time things get a little flaky he runs for XP as fast as he can?
Well, I call myself an aignostic because there is the very distinct possibility there is *something* out there. But he might be completely unlike anything we have ever seen before. Something totally outside of our understanding. And we might have as much chance understanding it as your average amoeba does understanding Humans.
If "God" were really like that, Christians would have a real serious problem. He doesn't answer prayers, he didn't send his son to die on a cross, we made all that up.
Consider this.
Lets say, 500 years from now we are a space faring species and in our exploration of the universe we find a big unknown energy "thing" out in space, and it claims that was the very first organism in our universe to achieve sentience after we find this thing. (and after we find out how really to communicate with it.) That it really is observable and "there." and it has to operate within the boundaries of our universe. It just has been around so long it knows how things work and how to make things we don't.
What have we found?
I'm not saying thats the way it "really is" I'm saying that if in our future we start really encountering other organisms more advanced than Humans, the three religions are going to have a serious problem. Because, no God didn't create Humans in thier Image. And the whole Christian, Muslim and Jewish theism falls apart.
Wonder if I'll be reading about this in 20 years from the prospective that this is what allowed religious fanatics to create generations of religiously indoctrinated Christianized children that jail and execute intellectuals.
After looking at all that, am I the only one who is sorta taken by how complicated it is, and under the impression I am looking at the various complications of the Borg collective Consciousness?
(Before anyone makes the Bill Gates of Borg jokes, I have friends who say that really Microsoft is much more like the Jem'Hadar than the Borg. They don't really assimilate, they just show up with guns and take what they want.
I can't think of anything profound to say. I hate to be the bearer of hopelessness, but I think that the US is too far down the road to being a police state. There is no way this will get reversed. I don't see this thing being defeated in the Senate. There are too many powerful lobbies behind it. Sorry.
A serious issue in Science education is the All or nothing brinkmanship put on by creationists. For example, the idea that if there is something we can't explain or don't understand. Then Science is wrong, and the Kent Hovinds' are correct. Because we make a mistake doesn't make all of science wrong, it just means we made a mistake and we'll try better next time.
But as far as I can tell, until people stop believing in Christian mythology, and thats what it is, mythology, stories, fairy tales. Then we will turn inward and destroy each other. The reason science education sucks in the US is because half the US population hates science and is actively fighting science education causing our school systems to descend into a state of civil war.
The earth is NOT 6000 years old, get the fuck over it!
Does it support LDAP and Kerberos? I used LDAP and Kerberos to replicate my updates using urpmi on Mandriva to keep all my updates syncronized on all my boxen for Application development. Kerberos is a must.
Of course the gaming situation on Linux is terrible, Game producers have a predisposed anti-Linux prejudice. Trust me, game shops hate Linux, and I contend that if Linux ever became a market force that refused to be ignored, Game shops would do whatever was possible to sabotage a Linux gaming platform.
But you are wrong. Linux is not another Atari of gaming. It could be an excellent gaming platform, its just that there will be blood that runs in the streets before the Game publishers allow there to be Games like Crysis for Linux natively.
Look, the fact is that the telcos are engaged in criminal conspiracy to censor the Internet. Of course tiered rates for bandwidth usage will always be there. Thats been the way of the world since Broadband began. Anti-Net Neutrality is about WHAT you can access, not how fast you can access it, people who advocate against net neutrality are advocating FOR Internet censorship.
There is a problem with that statement. Windows can flatten the market. Like the guy in the post above. "There is no reason for anyone to use anything but XP." And this was part of my speech I wrote Earlier. If you believe some of the posts here, (which I do not.) there is no reason to run any OS OTHER than Windows. so. "Use whichever OS you like. Use whatever OS does what you need." is a recipe for Windows monopoly.
In the IT world if I go into a company, I will have no choice. I will have to implement systems such as Active directory I will have to put together software I don't want too. In the corporate world, Network Adimins have no choice at all.

Thats a victory in my opinion.
I've been able to put together a better gaming Linux setup on Mandriva than Ubuntu. Mandriva has alot of things Ubuntu doesn't.
You always know the troll pushing XP.

Every Linux Vendor I can think of signs the package with a key. Just make sure that the package manager won't install the application without a key.

I wonder if they will just say that blocking their RST Packets is a violation of TOS and disconnect you.

I meant to write "Well, USians."

We USians in a society that threatens to throw its students in jail for 40 years for changing grades.
If your a young person. Consider moving to Canada.
No I have not, it is not considered ready for primetime yet, I do have a functional Linux Directory service and Single Sign on solution.
Does it support LDAP and Kerberos? I used LDAP and Kerberos to replicate my updates using urpmi on Mandriva to keep all my updates syncronized on all my boxen for Application development. Kerberos is a must.
What straw will break the camel's back? When will the public revolt over this? What will it take?

I've commented on this before in a Previous post. We are not trying to bring about the year of Linux, we are trying to prevent the LAST YEAR of Linux.
See: http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=572739&cid=23648009
The result? I have four college degrees, and a network of computers of my own. I have never committed a crime in my life.

I didn't mean kill people as in violence. I have done some technical things on the research end. I did this for university.
