    Forget Linux, Java works much better on Windows than on Solaris.
    I found Java on Solaris to be rather buggy.

    This particular Chinese phone is a GSM phone. Verizon couldn't allow it even if they
    wanted to.

    Well, they can clone an iPhone or whatever. Already bugs and security holes are being found in iPhone. And AAPL would fix it and a security patch will be issued. Who is fixing bugs in the iClone? What if it lets people intercept the calls? Who is going to make the repairs? Suddenly when it dies with all your contacts and music and files, you think iChina is going to be there? Half the value AAPL provides is not in the iPhone.


    Those Chinese can never do all these complicated stuff. It's only the great Steve & his merry men who
    could provide these patches & fixes etc.
    Also the Chinese phone is obviously rigged to allow the Chinese Govt to listen to all your secret
    phone calls.
    Of course, no one will ever be able to repair these phones if something goes wrong.

    Also, maybe demons will fly out of the phone when you are talking on it.

    LG will now have to sue both Apple & the Chinese
    company for copying their touch screen phone.

    US cell phone companies will have to recognize and allow the miniOne into their cellular networks.


    What a dumb commnet. You could just get a SIM card from T-Mobile or any other GSM provider & plug into
    the phone. There is no absolutely no way, the provider will able be able to detect it or do anything about
    it.

    Open Source may be an excellent model for developing software,
    but I don't think it's a good business model.

    As & when more Open Source businesses become a little
    successfull, we will surely see some of them do what MySQL
    has done.

    should be using the API getopt() or getopt_long().


    There is no getopt or getopt_long in the C or C++ standard.

    Thread through many mails in the thread archived at lkml.org.
    Overall, it looks like almost everyone feels that Linus's
    portrayal of Con is absolutely unfair. Linus seems to have
    made a decision & is then doing character attacks on Con
    to justify his decision. There is even one mail where he
    talks about Con's illness & says that it didn't help.

    My personal opinion is that Linus comes out looking worse
    in this Linus vs Con debate.

    Why not bite the bullet and go with an OSX type operating system? It'll be a bit painful but it'll cure a lot of the security woes


    I don't see how just moving to an OSX type OS will cure security woes.
    For that you would need to also move to an OSX type fanboi base who can
    threaten security researchers.

    The very last piece of software I would ever install on my own computers would be a Chinese or Russian anti-virus package. Sure, it may finger other viruses, but it might also allow free access to the "right" people.


    Wow, the Chinese & Russian Govt are interested in accessing your
    computer. It's great to have such people posting on Slashdot.
    This is even better than Wil Wheaton posting here.
