I'm in my 20s, and I do not have any desire to be in the spotlight. I think I outgrew that phase at around 8 years old.
However, if I could have an image of my parted butt-cheeks up there (or really, anyones parted butt-cheeks, they need not be mine), I would go for that. I still haven't outgrown that.
You can find a much better review <a href="http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews<nobr>/<wbr></wbr></nobr> r1.html">here</a>. It gives a much more detailed look at the features, but will be more useful still when they have completed the conclusions portion (awaiting production camera, as opposed to pre-production sample).
This article has been up on mac-centric news sites for a while now. The difference is that all the others pointed out the more interesting aspect of the new patents: You can select, from MacOS X, Windows, and Linux a primary OS and secondary OS.
So not only is Apple not preventing users from installing Windows or Linux along side OS X, they are going out of their way to enable them to do so.
Michael Dell is feeling a tightening of the rectum right about now.
And yet...slashdotters are still preoccupied with how Apple might someday try to prevent the OS from being installed on non-Apple hardware.
Maybe a simpler explanation was that apple didn't want the ROKR to cannibalize Shuffle sales, and so limited the number of songs it would play, keeping the Shuffle competitive. Thats not quite the same as saying Apple sabotaged the ROKR and wanted it to be a disaster. I don't know what Apple makes per ROKR sold, but I suspect its less than they make on any model of iPod. The limitation sucks for Motorola, and for users, but is necessary for Apple to protect its interests.
Implicit in this accusation is that Apple is some sort of malignant opportunist and Motorola is a naive victim of treachery. Apple didn't do anything without Motorola's knowledge and agreement, and Motorola has MUCH more experience in the mobile phone industry than Apple. If Motorola thought the ROKR would be a disaster, they wouldn't have released it.
Apple was pretty open about why they allowed the ROKR ever to exist. It was an experiment. There are plenty of mp3 playing phones that have done reasonably well to think that making one that sucks would sour consumers against the entire paradigm. Thats nonsense. However, it reasonable that Apple should hedge their bet when they have the most to lose from the venture (e.g. thriving iPod sales).
look, i didnt say i in anyway support the MPAA. im sorry if you took it that way. my point was that the owners of the DVD standard went out of their way to prohibit DVD decoding on linux. im glad they lost. now get a grip.
that has nothing to do with it. the phillips-sony-etc conglomerate that created the dvd standard refused to license the decoder to any OS besides Windoze and MacOS. People can watch DVDs on linux only by using (illegally) reverse engineered software. I believe "DVD John" is the nickname of the guy that reverse engineered it, and as I recall he was prosecuted. There is probably a wiki article about it.
That gives me an idea. Apple should negotiate with airlines to put a a/v-in jack in all the little LCD sceens in the seatbacks so you can bring youre own programming with you on trips. Now if there were just an easy way to transfer TiVo recorgins to iPod...
"If the planet's environment is life-friendly, then it's only a matter of time before life evolves on it."
what time scale are you talking about? as far as anything we know of, life has appeared spontaneously ONCE. every life form on our planet is related by the same genetic componenentry. but whenever you slap a mosquito, the result is a glob of "primordial goo" far more fertile for the spontaneous appearance of life than anything available on earth prior to the RNA/DNA based life forms we know and love, but we don't see new types of creatures popping up on our wind shields. we can't even force new types of life to appear in a lab. you really need to lay off the sci-fi for a while.
there have been rumors of Apple adding movie downloads to the iTMS for months now. They already have music video downloads and the ability for HD video playback built in. (iTunes 4.9 + Quicktime 7.0)
it will be as effective as selling music online. it wont eliminate piracy, but it will curb it because a lot of people are willing to pay a few bucks and get a high quality download the first time with spending a lot of time searching for a title or competing for bandwidth. (i am one such person.)
getting the download out before the DVD is key, as part of the motivation for piracy is to be the first kid on the block with the latest and greatest. This shortens the time span for which that is a motivation.

now i'm going to have to relabel all my magnets.
Ha! Thats the funnier comment.

is this a joke? i don't get it.

this article is flamebait. we should be able to mod it down. Zonk's karma should be imploding right now.
as many as 85% or americans follow some sort of daily routine!
Yet another manufacturer fails to make the distinction between "we can" and "we should."

I ate fruit and vegetables and no red meat yesterday and I still feel like crap.
/. readers that showers are in some way "optional."
Also, I think it is highly irresponsible on your part to suggest to
-1 flamebait.

Its called JHymn, friend.
but if you read it that way, there really isnt as much opportunity for derisive sarcasm.

You and youre buddy were either way behind or way ahead of the times if you had Starwars 4 on DVD days after release theatrical release.
