    now you can get your tv shows with spyware.

    I record my own shows my own way from cable/airtv to my pc and if I want to keep them for viewing later I ditch the commercials and put it on cd/dvd.

    why would I want to try this? I guess I can't since I don't use windows any more - and this certainly won't get me to go back to windows.

    Gee I guess they will start monopolizing video now along with SBC and iptv - and before you know it I will be in jail for running linux because it is an illegal operating as you all know.

    How dare I want to learn how hardware and the os interact and use linux - I am from the US and I am suppose to be a microsoft drone.

    no that isn't the same thing -

    you seem to have a mistaken view of what Mox/FF extension are.

    the flash viewer is a plugin - an extension is something like "add bookmark here" extension.

    the only way to disable the flash ff plugin is to uninstall it or remove from the plugin directory.

    you can disable extensions without removing them.

    who does think he is anyway - my company doesn't own me and I am free to think and come up with ideas without the company saying they own it.

    this could be applied to anything - if I think of someway to paint my garage in five minutes and then my company wants to use the idea for their buildings - are they going to claim they own the idea because when I thought of it I worked for them? companies don't own you - what a moron.

    It's not the same at all -

    activex is more like java - you can embed in a web page - that is why it sucks - because since it is activex you can only use it with intenet exploder.

    and no I don't think the mozilla/ff extensions suck -
    at least I can take them off and still view web pages. I have no choice with activex - if some microsoft fanboy codes his web page with activex then I can't view it - this is what is locking them in the corporations too -

    active x should just be outlawed.

    you have to be crazy to put anything on the web with active x - it just sucks.

    don't you all think if microsoft is in the process of going out of business like sco - that they would use anything,anywhere to keep from going out of business.

    I think it would be a great idea - I tried ubuntu and now it is all I use - hardware detection is second to none - can't wait till next release - got my apt-get ready - I hope unbutu sticks around for a long time - I plan on not doing another iso install ever - use debian on my sparc sun blade 100 at work - will never do another sun cdrom upgrade on that one either.

    if ubuntu puts out a sparc edition I will get it on my sunblade in a snap.

    this isn't suprising -

    just like calculators - my college computer teacher did not allow us calculators while we were taking tests.

    this should be the same for any other school -
    they are tools - you still need to know how to use them and how they work. just because I have wire cutters doesn't make me an electrician.

    my daughter just entered kindergarten and the year before they bought a bunch of new computers.
    now why do kindergarteners need to learn computers? these kids can't spell or write or read yet but we are sitting them in front of computers and expecting what?

    well I bought an old mac from a friend just to see if she would be interested in playing some educational games but it went over like a brick and now it just sits in my basement - so now I have to sit with her and actually write letters - oh no -

    well I say good for my daughter - she has no interest in computers and I for one am not going to shove it down her throat - even though I am an unix sys admin I would be overjoyed if she didn't get into computers at all -

    and by the way - school is about EVERYONE learning and not just about being productive.
    productivity and education don't necessarily go hand in hand - I want my childs mind open to everything not just being a microsoft office drone.

    but I am afraid that there isn't much future in software programming because by the time she grows up all the software patents will be held by a very few companies and no one will be able to start their own business or create on their own without having their own attorney doing patent searches.

    why are they considering even putting windows on these boxes - if the government runs linux on a number of their pc's it should be a slam dunk.

    maybe corporations are trying to use this as a training opportunity for their employees - if all the corporations run windows and the employees run windows at home then their training costs would be practically zero. but if they run linux then the corporations will have to train them or take their business where the people know windows already.

    call me paranoid but this is just a thought. I can't think of another reason why they would even be considering a broken version of windows. the people can learn how to do all kinds of stuff using linux.

    first was sco and all this fud about intellectual property and now this try to get all those vendors that we forced to sell our os with their pc's to really force our os on the pc and not be able to install anything else.

    who knows what else they have planned but when it all fails - and as a last resort - they will launch a patent assualt and put the industry at a standstill.

    If the terrorist used global navigation sattelites and devices to help them guide and pilot the planes to the towers does that make the devices they use and the company that made them non-outstanding citizens.

    why they are doing it - but please keep sparc - my work won't buy me another admin workstation and I have a sunblade 100 and debian runs a heck of a lot faster than any version of solaris I had on it mainly solaris 8 and 9. and all the software works like it is suppose to - not some screwed up gnome version sun thinks coporations need.

    had a coworker try solaris 10 and now he is bugging management for more memory so 10 is just as bad as 8 or 9.

    so pleeeeeeease don't drop sparc.

    rebate are nothing but a scam.

    I think of all the ones I sent in I only got one and that was for 5 dollars - it's funny when you expect the big rebates they didn't get all the information they needed. and then even if you have copies to get the information to them it is beyond the deadline of the rebate offer.

    I say bullshit - I would put any linux desktop up against microsoft anyday (I prefer Ubuntu) and call it more than enterprise ready. We already know the servers are enterprise ready. People who want microsoft can learn to support their crap on their own - I for one will not support their crap anymore or any other "enterprise ready" system. What the fuck does a secretary need a $500.00 dollar office suite when open office or even gnome office will do what she needs to do. To all the execs out there - stop the fucking madnes and save some jobs by going to open source.

    what does it cost the state for me download software from say europe and if I live in wisconsin - nothing
    I pay for the access and computers - there is no cost to the state - why charge taxes?

    Stores charge taxes because they actually take up
    land. There is no capital investment by the state that they have to make up for by charging taxes.

    So I really don't understand why any local city or state should do this. It will just create more dollars for lawyers in sueing people and procsecution for tax evation. Oh - now I get it - nevermind.
