I know my shop would - but we don't allow microsft on the extranet or on any revenue generating servers (or any servers for that matter).

we also keep some linux live cds on hand for emergencies so people would still be able to get email and internet.

you do live in a country where you have the ability to pirate to your hearts content.
just because you live in the US doesn't mean you can't pirate stuff. What the RIAA is doing doesn't do a thing to catching pirates. The only thing they are doing is limiting the legitmate buyers and how/where they play music. And now spyware is a legitimate business model all in the name of protecting IP.

your remarks are so off base here I don't know where to start.

RIAA are nothing but greedy middleman. the artists don't need them and I buy music from artists that do not use them. I don't pirate music but it isn't because my government tells me not to it is because it is ethically wrong and I will not do it.

What the RIAA is doing is an embarrassment to this country and I hope they go bankrupt and just basically disappear. With the internet I see that happening eventually I just hope I live long enough to see it.

I boycott the RIAA and I hope other americans do the same because of what they are doing is unconstitutional. I am glad the article named senators. At least I know who not to support next election.

how the government can be bought - IT professionals chose a solution based on an open standard and not on a vendor's product so it's CITIZENS can have access to their documents without having to buy a certain software product. What a concept.

But now they get restructured and told what to do because microsoft has some politicians in it's pockets.

Sure makes our forefathers proud doesn't it? Glad my dad fought in WWWII so these greedy politicians can sit on their fat arses and tell people how to do their jobs when they have no clue on how to do it themselves.

they will eventually do something that makes the other standard absolete or non-existant and then they will get sued and pay off the plantiff and just go about their business. Meanwhile the other companies will go out of business.

solaris has it's place in the data center - it is great for high end stuff like their 6800's and above. but that is about it and sun just needs to realize that and try to help linux overtake microsoft for the desktop.

I think sun for some reason or another has their feeling hurt from linux and are just trying to match it on everything it does. Solaris just can't do that. I administer sun boxes for a living too and I think it is great for the 6800's and above. but linux is truely cross platform and I can have the same interface running on sparc, x86, amd64, itanium, pppc, and probably a few others that I have left out. solaris just can't match that and probably really shouldn't try.
