I don't find that to be true. I took a bootcamp on solaris ten a couple of weeks ago and he started with quoting linus and comparing the quote to bill's famous 64k nobody will ever need it.
then they go ahead and tell us what they learned from open source.
sun is just trying to survive and they will do ANYTHING to survive. guess I can't blame them cause I would do the same.
but I wish they would just quit slamming linux and stop the double speak.
the training issue looks like it will get thrown out because you will have to send joe/jane user to training. so might as well send them to open office training and get out of the upgrade cycle.
sicker is that apparently the companies that we rely on for getting rid of root kits knew about the software since 2004 and did nothing. good going guys.
doesn't it really make you look forward to VISTA - it is going to have this crap all over the os - they are working with media companies so everyone has to use windows to watch TV or DVDs.
none of these companies care about the consumer - they are going to give us what they are going to give us and that's it.
this why I chose open source and always will. no one is going to tell me how to use my computer.
"You should be modded as insightful. The place to play is on your own machine. If you don't like the standards at your workplace you should find a new job. I'm all for running whatever works on the desktop, but it's the perogative of the *owner* of the hardware (in this case the employer) to decided what is to be run on it."
wrong - IT should be encouraged to experiment - that is part of their job after all.
now do you want Jane Doe secretary to install linux on her workstation - no but she doesn't really care about what is on her desktop.
this guy is the sys admin - part of the job description is test and experiment with anything and everything computer related that has to do with his job.
this has anything to do with the recent debacle with anti-trust hearing and sending an email to vendors about how their media players can only use windows or something like - maybe it was their codecs.
has anybody heard anything about that and what the judge is going to do.
I remember microsoft's excuse - " the new guy did it "
"If he's registered as disabled, then your taxes should be paying for that software - that's why it costs hundreds of dollars.."
ya that makes sense - just because taxes pay for it doesn't make it right.
ya I guess since software is underwritten for schools they should still cough up thier share of money when they really don't have to when there are better open source alternatives out there.
I am glad microsoft brought this subject up. they will regret it because now there will be open source accessability applications out there that will be much better than any windows crap.
ya I totally agree - how long was it till they released the google bar for linux.
they should be releasing linux versions at the same time as windows if not before.
with their help desktop linux could take off. when the common joe user sees all this new stuff and it works on linux too it would help ease their fears about linux.
Outlook is a big security hole masquerading as an email client. It just sucks. Ya and I mean Office outlook - don't even talk to me about outlook express.
""TV will be redefined so that the shows can be when you want them. They can be personalised; when you see the news it will on the topics you care about," he said."
who wants microsoft to have anything to do with the news delivery system. isn't it corrupt enough the way it is.
Isn't that kind of going through life with blinders on - just hearing the news you want to hear and not everything in an unbiased manner.
what is wrong with his head and this picture (no pun intended).
"I do want to know how this happened," the judge said. "It seems to me at this late date, we should not have this occur." She did not indicate she plans to punish Microsoft, but her comments were remarkable because she generally praises efforts by the company and government under the settlement."
I hope they get the book thrown at them and not just a lecturing. They need some kind of punishment.
If what they say is true then they should not have low level people doing this work, but I doubt it is true. this is typical microsoft and it is a pattern and they are just playing with the court system because they are a cash cow for the government.
this is great news we need more victories like this. I don't care what distribution they chose as along as it isn't Microsoft.
now they will be kicking themselves for not doing it sooner. we need to stop this distribution fighting. I chose Ubuntu personally but I personally find it very hard to chose because there are so many that are high quality.
stay in context please - I am talking about software - it is a fact microsoft was courting companies to sue people over linux just to quit the adoption of Linux. SCO was one of the companies. it is the only way they can fight linux - by outlawing it - they obviously can't write better software.
Please do not listen to Microsoft's fud - and do not use their software. Go with Linux. I prefer Ubuntu but that is your choice as to what distribution to use.
Microsoft is a convicted monopolists that locks their competition out in the name of innovation. Linux is free and gives you the chance to really learn how to do computers right. Not wrong like Microsoft.
Please do not think that Microsoft represents America and that is all we use here. There are millions here who use Linux and live without Microsoft everyday. You do not need Microsoft and do not let them tell you you do. They spend millions in marketing and lies so do not believe their hype. They make crooked deals with vendors in the U.S. so the only OS we can buy with our computers is Windows. This still does not deter millions who use Linux everyday and have no need for Windows.
So please do not buy Windows or their FUD (Fear Uncertaninty and Doubt). You can and will more than make do with Linux. So please choose Linux and you will never regret it.
I know a couple of 60+ year old mothers that have dropped windows and are using linux - linux is ready now - just install it - the sheeple are just fed a line of crap thinking that we need windows to run all our apps - open source has plenty of apps to replace the crappy windows ones. and I have installed linux and windows for some 60+ mothers and linux is a lot easier hands down to install than windows. I even let one mother do the install and she ran it without any problems.
We need to stop saying linux needs to get better it is better just go ahead and try it. It is always getting better but it has reached a point where it can and has replaced windows on 60+ year old mothers pcs.
" less doublespeak on Linux"
I don't find that to be true. I took a bootcamp on solaris ten a couple of weeks ago and he started with quoting linus and comparing the quote to bill's famous 64k nobody will ever need it.

go with open office
it is cross platform and standards compliant.
the training issue looks like it will get thrown out because you will have to send joe/jane user to training. so might as well send them to open office training and get out of the upgrade cycle.

wish I thought of that one -
"If he's registered as disabled, then your taxes should be paying for that software - that's why it costs hundreds of dollars.."

nice blog entry - it really shows what microsoft is made of.
I am confident that this will be a non issue very soon.
""But if you look at the most innovative desktop today, Microsoft's Vista is not copying Linux, it is copying Apple.""
cool I think I will go out and buy Vista today - oh wait - nevermind.
you can take your 99 cent show and put it with your DRM ridden IPOD - well you know where.
DRM - your guilty and we know it.
that is all point of view
I prefer evolution over outlook - to me outlook is confusing and full of options that I have to disable to get it to do want I want.
but again that is just all point of view.
the security hole is fact though not point of view.
ya I totally agree - how long was it till they released the google bar for linux.
they should be releasing linux versions at the same time as windows if not before.
with their help desktop linux could take off. when the common joe user sees all this new stuff and it works on linux too it would help ease their fears about linux.
you think with all the money that we are supposed to be ripping off of the mpaa and the riaa that they would be out of business already.
guess they are still doing pretty good to last this long.
exhibit one for the GPL - this is why linux has not penetrated the desktop. because of vendors, companies pulling crap like this.
man - I am so glad I do not have windows in my life. Just because of this crap.
the riaa and mpaa are going to go broke if they continue to do this crap - the sheeple will follow only so long and then revolt.
so knock it off you knuckle heads. you are telling people are guilty that are legititmately buying your product of stealing.
how insulting is that?
Outlook is a big security hole masquerading as an email client. It just sucks. Ya and I mean Office outlook - don't even talk to me about outlook express.
when vendors have an agreement with microsoft that punishes them for shipping a competitors product.
Hello - DOJ are you watching?
when vendors don't have an agreement with microsoft that punishes them if they ship a competing product.

when something like this happens we all win.
stay in context please - I am talking about software - it is a fact microsoft was courting companies to sue people over linux just to quit the adoption of Linux. SCO was one of the companies. it is the only way they can fight linux - by outlawing it - they obviously can't write better software.
I purely put the blame on microsoft - they started this whole protecting your ip patent extortion scheme to fight linux.
you never heard the word IP before microsoft started using it in their defense against linux.
that is their only defense too - they can't write better software - so just sue them.
ya the first thing I am going to do is replace my critical 24x7 linux clusters with windows.
ya I would really get my money back on that move.
I'll put it on my todo list right now.
Please do not listen to Microsoft's fud - and do not use their software. Go with Linux. I prefer Ubuntu but that is your choice as to what distribution to use.

"Almost all the major development organizations and independent software vendors support Eclipse, except for holdouts Sun Microsystems and Microsoft."
enough said.
