I think the most logical explanation would be 1) competitor, but one offering the same service, how many people went to the .com and .net counterparts when .org wasn't reachable? and we know that those guys do have proffit in mind, and have no ethical problem with attacking .org

The don't make an OS at all, but focus on a sub layer, something I have heard IBM was doing some research in, that is platform independant, so you keep your OS, but your desktop will be Google, maybe as a shell manager, maybe as an extra layer...

I'm wondering if it's not just a Windows problem in the end, as I'm running Firefox on Solaris for quite some time now and have never seen any of the problems I have heard people complain about, eccept for completely freezing system, but that is solved by disabling java for Firefox.

  6. Re:Hope the level design is better this time on Halo 2 Reviews · · Score: 1

I find that rather hard to accept, the game was near finished when Microsoft bought Bungie, everyone knew and was waiting for the PC release, the XBOX was not out for an other year after the aquisition, I can understand that some parts had to be reworked, maybe the levels had to be cropped, to save memory usage, and maybe the level design had to be simplified, but thats a bit unlikely aswell, so I think they just underestimated the impact the level design would have on the actual gameplay.

  7. or maybe the western world? on Home Defense, Geek Style? · · Score: 1

Maybe we were not so pastoral before firearms, but we are quite pastoral since they became illegal in the whole of Europe.
An other point is that there is a much higher risk at death from firearms compared to clubs, or knives.
You reason from an asumption that the intention to kill is there first and then the tool comes in to play, I think you are very wrong on that, very often the intentions are to hurt someone out of wrangled emotions, self defense, etc. hitting someone with a club or knife will not result in death in most cases, hitting someone with a gun will! now the easy availebilety of guns in the US comes into play...

Suicide rates are a whole diferent issue, and are highest in countries with very high social presure, like overpopulated Japan, and cold and depressing Scandinavian countries.
