You're getting it wrong. Sawfish supports both Workspaces and Virtual Desktops which are different beasts. Sawfish is infact the best implementation of these features with tons of configurability.
Absurd as it may seem, but Vmware is much much simpler than Wine. It just virtualizes some of the hardware, but it runs the unmodified Windows kernel and native DLLs. Wine, instead, strives to implement all of the Windows API as faithfully as possibile, and that includes the undocumented stuff. So I would not define the effort meager...
Not only is RTS dead, but most genres are. We're getting 3D-accelerated versions of the same old things we used to play years ago. The gaming industry just doesn't like taking risks: it costs too much to produce a game.
Ok, maybe they are not huge, but Prada (Italian fashion designer and sponsor of "Luna Rossa" at the last America's Cup), uses Oracle running on RedHat stored on a pair of EMC Clariions for their datawarehouse.
I don't know what size the database is, but the Clariions had 400GB each worth of disks.
How is it possible that such a post has reached a score of 5 ???
GNOME is not "ailing" as you say. It is quite healthy, and Ximian is one of the reasons for its health.
Supporting.NET is a very good choice for the Open Source/Free Software community and I appreciate Ximian's open-mindedness in going ahead with Mono. If everyone thought like you do, we wouldn't have Samba. --

Well said. Server-chip need server benchmarks: Database, web server, J2EE stuff. In most cases those boxes won't even have a video card...
Even the Mindcraft benchmark would be a good test. --

You don't understand. Gecko is much more featureful than KDE's HTML engine. If you want the quick viewer use KDE's, if you want support for stuff like XML+CSS, MathML, XSL and all the other funky things that the great Moz does, then use Gecko. --

No you don't. The Mozilla shared libraries can be used by any application, they just need the extra wrapper for the widget set you intend to use. There already is a gtkmozembed. All you need is qtmozembed.

Well I am a bit biased here... but in terms of scalability, reliability and performance NetApp doesn't even come close with their Filers to EMC's Celerra.

Actually you would go for FC (Fiber Channel) not SCSI. Go to http://www.fibrechannel.org for more information.
