Yeah, a lot of people died because of that tsunami. A lot of people have died as a result of 9/11, and I'm not talking about the people in the towers or the planes. I'd argue that the world has, to a degree, generally become a shittier place for everyone living in it thanks to the actions of the US government in the wake of 9/11.

  3. Re:Anti-competitive behavior on Netflix Deflects Rage Over Price Increase · · Score: 1

You do realize their licensing costs are set to increase by an order of magnitude, right? Blockbuster peaked in 2009 and went bankrupt almost a year ago and has since been purchased by Dish Network for a measly $300 million. If Netflix was using low prices to snuff out the competition, they would have immediately raised their prices after successfully defeating the previous market leader.

  4. Re:So they do this after killing Blockbuster? on Netflix Announces Streaming Only Plans and Higher Prices for DVDs · · Score: 1

Netflix is getting screwed left and right by content owners. Showtime stopped playing nice, and Sony just removed all of their titles. The licensing costs Netflix has to pay for content are going to increase astronomically now that the studios see how popular it is. What do you expect Netflix to do, just eat the order of magnitude increase in cost so they can keep your subscription price the same?

Apple said you don't need MMS. I don't want to get in to an argument about how stupid it is to say that email is a simple replacement (it isn't, give up now). Lo and behold Apple finally added MMS to the iPhone after YEARS of people bitching about it. I'm anxious to see how you will spin that in to "Apple just wanted to give users a superior experience."

I can attest to this. For some reason I recently took it upon myself to get a fully functioning copy of Windows 98 SE running in a VM with VirtualBox. Getting the graphics to work correctly is a nightmare. I ended up going with the VBEMP driver and while it is hardly stable it at least lets me set the display to 16 bit color with a resolution above 640x400. There are a couple of other driver issues as well, including sound and USB. Hopefully Oracle will eventually release the guest additions for Win98 and resolve most of these issues.

I know it is too late in the life of this discussion for anyone to actually read this, but I see another angle on this that I feel is worth considering. Apple does allow free apps in the App Store and I believe they also take a cut of the advertising in these apps. Please correct me if I am wrong about this. Anyway, if someone chooses to write a web app instead of an App Store app, Apple doesn't get a cut of the advertising revenue. Again, I don't know if we're talking about enough money to justify these actions; just something else to consider.

What they should have done is filled the ranks of a protest led by Phelps' church with homosexual men and women as well as transgendered people. Imagine the reaction of Phelps and his followers when at a specific point during the protest/sermon half the group "spontaneously" turns gay and start making out with and feeling up members of the same sex.
