As far as I understood this, the GP wasn't only talking about companies, but more about guys/gals like him/her that spend their free time making a contribution and want to see a little - fame doesn't pay bills - in return.
MS Word/PPT/etc is not a suitable format for emails
not everyone has the UI layout in mind for some obscure program they might use (and are unable to do so)
it doesn't make sense to call someone right after sending some email and asking if the received it

btw 'Traumschiff' is also a pun on an old school german series...
it's a cheesy one about some luxury cruise liner with plots aimed at the elderly
