Thats exactly why we need to break up these monopolies. You think Joe's Cable Company (or whatever) would have the nerve to do something like that? No.
You are most correct. I oversimplified my argument to make a point. I covered half the problem. You covered the other half I was just too lazy to cover.:)
If they are lucky! Xbox has made a MUCH bigger dent than anyone could have imagined, and all thanks to the deep pockets of MS. I think MS would be ecstatic to have the same success with the MSN music store...
This is very true. The US is behind, and for good reason. While other countries develop cutting-edge infrastructures that are government-subsidized, we are stuck here in the US paying money to monopolies (read: Comcast, et al) for relatively substandard services. Sure, it might be more than enough for people now, but there is no reason that a nation as advanced as ours should be so backwards in this area.
Yes, well then you are very fortunate to have such a good life. In my post, I did not say that everyone would want to take it, but just imagine how many would.
I already have an iPod and I already use iTunes and I am perfectly happy with both. Plus, Apple is perceived to be "cool" (at the moment) whereas Microsoft is "uncool", so I can't see people switching.
You better bet that M$ is going to be rolling out the marketing machine on this baby, and spending money Apple could never dream of matching...
Do you expect anyone using Mozilla to want to buy from the MSN music store anyways? I think most Moz users would rather die than have a drm-laden WMA file on their comp...
Are you serious? Do you have an idea as to what the salary would be? And after working for Google, you could likely pick your place of employment forever (provided you don't get fired). Google is now a world-wide power in the software community - it would be well worth it to take the job.

The 500 participants in Round 1 will receive a "Google Code Jam 2004, Powered by TopCoder" t-shirt. The top five scorers in the Championship Round will receive the following cash prizes
Why don't they offer something like a job interview for those old enough to take it? Or even a job for the winner (with restrictions, of course)? Imagine how many people would rather work for Google than have the cash prize.
Thanks for the tip. I have heard many good things about the book you recommend so maybe I will check that out. Seems that I was a m0r0n for thinking that a DB book could have a good fact base.:)
I think that eventually we will reach near-perfect, if not perfect encryption algorithms. Pardon my "n00b"-ness, but I am basing my limited knowledge off of Digital Fortress by Dan Brown, but an algorithm such as that - if you cannot comprehend it being created, you cannot think of it being cracked.
No. The Zodiac has an advanced graphics chip (ATi if I'm not mistaken) that lets it render things the Treo could never do. Also, lower res screens on the Treo don't help...
Did anyone else notice that they recommend small footprint versions of Linux but show XP in the screenshots? HA! Good luck fitting Windows on a CF card and keeping the total cost down. Sure if the thing is $500, you still have to buy a microdrive of some sort then to have a normal-footprint OS.
Fable is getting some pretty solid reviews.
Um....an email address to send it to might be nice. :)

Cause Canada just wants to beat the US at *something* besides hockey. :)
The problem with Broadband in the US? Profit
:)
Exactly. That's why we need the government involved...
That might not be any better here though.
AAC > WMA IMHO. Also, I don't like the idea of companies that big running stores, but I guess most people don't mind...

Funny how WinME need not apply as well... :)

Seems youre right - see that it was like 8/6 or something. Thanks.
Until the number of legal downloads FAR surpasses illegal ones, I will get my info from that list

Not when they have given me over 30 in the last week and 20 or so before then. I have been in the beta since the beginning...
Am I wrong, or was Firefox 0.9.3 not released until the new web page design?
