for a GNOME version to be out before all the trolls here start saying... umm now that improves my productivity. For instance, GNOME's HIG will show a popup window saying "Now you are being transferred to desktop [n]. To stop this action please press Cancel now, its the button on the wrong side of what you're used to!"
I've noticed that whenever any interesting GUI addition to KDE is mentioned, GNOME zealots get in the way and start deriding it by emphasizing how GNOME is simpler... and yet, GNOME claims to be more GUIier than KDE... I guess once GNOME has its own 3d pager, they will say it is being done in the most HIG way and its the most innovative and all that crap.
Seems like GNOME has copied the entire book over from Microsoft on how to claim everything they copy as the "First and the Best"!!
I knew this would happen... we'll have all the unix sympathisers trying to prove that it is better than linux anyway and this will start another this v/s that war... *sigh*
Mr. Gates is rally going along the same path that the villain in 'Tomorrow Never Dies', a Mr. Carver walks?
We don't even have a quick fix 007 solution with us...
But all those "uncool" features are exactly the stuff that made computers and the internet possible in the first place!
The cool ones managed to convert the computers into dumb toys.
I think the point you missed out is that FOSS makes it legal to copy software while M$ wanted us to "pirate" it. This, IMHO, is what M$ is worried about: If the FOSS way is entrenched, it would make people somehow "guilty" of pirating software. Why steal, when you can get for free?
I disagree. Apache runs almost 70% of the internet. How many times have you heard it being exploited in the same way as Windows and IE??
This is an oft-used excuse for Microsoft products being insecure. Probably started by Mr. Ballmer himself!
Go read the article of SuSE v/s Ubuntu to see how much empty hype is this thing called Ubuntu: http://www.shallowsky.com/blog/index.cgi/linux
So your next task is to find meanings for all the "G"'s in gnome apps ...

GNOME is being dumbed-down. Period. GNOME 1.2, IMHO was more "usable" than the "childishly" apologetic desktop that is 2.6+ ....
Its funny how the "representative sampling" of the world keeps changing the moment US Politically Correct hounds are let loose ...

Looks like it will take an Apache to bring the Cowboy down.
Reminds me of a quote I've often seen in email signatures:
When someone points at the sky, its the fool who looks at the finger.
Looks like all the replies to RMS on the mailing list are of the fool variety.
