In the narrowest since, unix doesn't require the command line: there is simpley the kernel and it's processes, and the shell is just one of those processes. In practice, however, the shell has become so entrenched that it is hard not to use it.
Why do we have lilo and grub pointing to the kernel image? The bootloader is doing more than it should. It's better to simply handoff control to a partition on the disk and let the operating system load itself. For example, I use the NetBSD bootloader, which simply prints two lines of text: Plan 9 and NetBSD. I simply hit 1 for Plan 9 and 2 for NetBSD, and it hands control off to the OS. GRUB and LILO make things overly-complex.
Since Win32 is "more mainstream" than GNU / Linux, lets just drop support for the latter in favor of the former....
I don't think this guy gets it. The developers write a program for a particular platform because they feel like it. If they don't want to support a certain platform, well, then they won't: as free software developers, they aren't obligated to.
Come on! Must we have laws for such stupid things? Let Microsoft fix it's defective software instead of outlawing exploiting it.... Doesn't the government have more important things to worry about, like foreign policy, the energy crisis, and weapons of mass destruction?
Well, my point was that people who understand what Unix can do aren't bothered by this crap, and will simply continue to use it correctly. Let those idiots continue to use an idiotic operating system. It's their own fault for not getting the facts.
Come on. Too many people care too much about rumors and "repuations" instead of getting the facts. People who seriously use and understand GNU / Linux know that scares like this are stupid, and that no operating system is secure by default: in order to secure your computer, you need to understand how it works yourself... you can't simply trust a company to secure it for you.
If anything, this will damage Linspire's reputation, not GNU / Linux's reputation. People probably think that Red Hat, SUSE, and Linspire are all unrelated anyway.
After they realized that Linux doesn't have a start button, tomorrow there will be a free software uninstall-fest happened in 106 cities in 13 Latin American Countries, in a coordinated event called FLUSOL (Latinamerican Free Software Uninstall Fest).
Mod +2 interesting.
Mod +3 insightful.

agreed: +2 funny.
this post is not inforrmative. mod +5 funny.
Wait, wrong post. Ignore parent.
Mod +5 funny!
Mod +1 underrated.
Mod +3 Funny!
No, he didn't type it. Nobody typed pedantry was dead.
Mod +3 funny!

Er, it said "most advanced computer", not "most advanced personal computer". But whatever.
You fail it!
fp do i fail it?
...because they look like shit.
With Windows even if I get bored of the shiny new looks I can switch back to Windows Classic which is perhaps the most unobtrusive look in existance.
Perhaps you have simply used it for so long that it just seems natural? To me, other window managers, such as fluxbox or wmii seem less obtrusive.
Er, actually, C# is a sad attempt to ride on the C name and is actually just Visual Basic .NET (which is a rip off of java) with C style syntax.

"That government is best which governs least"

Oh man. This is why I browse at -1. I've been using Gentoo for over a year and I think it's a great tool... but this is just funny.

Damage Linux's reputation?

Why is this article under Linux? The article has nothing to do with Linux... it should be under GNU.
