They are being sued, because they are involved in distributing material the companies have copyright for, this infringing the copyright.
Am I right or am I right?
Why is this so difficult to understand? Or are you still just trying to justify it's ok to distribute copyrighted material because it's fairly easy?
This is just like a regular Open Source project's documentation! 50% of it is false or just too old to be used for anything. It should be read only to get ideas on how the hell the project's applications should or can be used.
while all bugs from the change were believed to be found during the release candidate phase, it's possible that some devices may have problems.
Yeah, this is really amazing news. It would be even more amazing if there were no devices having problems with each time there are some "major" changes in the kernel.
The modernized version of the formula is as follows:
The amount of electronic commerce is money times speed of light to the power of two
So the more money you throw at it, the more "E" you get into your business.
I just love wireless networking, as I can post to Slashdot even in a seminaar!
Why would an average Joe Sixpack care whether his computer runs Solaris or Linux, if they BOTH run pretty much the same software? If both run GNOME/KDE and X11, and have pretty much same command line interface via same Unix applications, what's the difference to a normal user? Do you REALLY think a normal user cares about operating systems? No, he cares about getting his stuff done.
Well, shouldn't you call it "flawed" then instead of "broken", if the problem was in there all along?
Anyway, it's good to read this stuff from someone who actually knows more than the "MD5 is broken" mantra about this whole thing.
You sound even more convincing if you stop talking about MD5 being "broken" in every goddamn sentence. It's not "broken", if it cannot be "fixed". Something like the Linux kernel can be "broken" because it can be "fixed" in a later release.
Uhh... the article talks about Wine and not Linux. I understand that the editors go always totally ape shit when there's a chance to bash Microsoft and praise Linux, but could we have at least some sense with this? Please? You guys are as worse as the Microsoft PR machine.
What exactly is proprietary about DirectX? The low level drivers that talk to the hardware are made by graphics cards vendors and Microsoft provides full documentation of the API.
Am I missing something here? Isn't this the same as calling OpenGL proprietary?
If I remember correctly, Sony went through a lot of trouble getting (all?/most?) PS1 games to work on PS2. Early PS2 models were not 100% backwards compatible, an issue Sony later fixed.
Maybe the same will happed with Xbox 360. Or maybe Microsoft just will ignore the people complaining about non-working titles and makes sure the most popular legacy Xbox titles work 100%.
It's pretty easy to support Open Source efforts if your own money and rights are not on the line. Does he actually own the rights to the games or has he just been working on the team? People here seem to think he owns the game if he has programmed it...
the article clearly states p2p networks are being used to pirate warez and RIAA is just trying to make it a little harder by introducing bogus files.
This is really shocking. Gonna spank my hamster now.
Oh yea you did. Legally, by purchasing the record, you AGREED and are obliged to follow all the copyright stuff in the record or in its sleave. It's the same thing.
What, have you also signed a contract with your government saying you can't drive 200km/h with your car on a highway? No? Well is it legal for you then?
Ok so I buy a CD record, happened about 500 times already in the past so I expect this is a fairly likely scenario in the future also. Why would I want to share it in the first place? It says in the CD sleeve copying and sharing the record is illegal as it clearly violates the contract I made with the record company as I purchased the record; a copyright infringement.
For the love of being an atheist, just how does this limit my rights? No, don't anyone give me bullshit about how sharing is not a theft. I know it is not. But it is still illegal as you are violating copyright. The record companies have EVERY RIGHT to come after your sorry asses. What are you people still crying about? Are you just trying to justify downloading music for free is legal, because you do not have money or are too cheap to buy the damn CDs?
No one is forcing you to rent anything.
No one is forcing you to watch TV.
No one is forcing you to buy a cell phone.
No one is forcing you to buy anything.
But if you do, you must pay.
Is this too complicated? Always remember it is not the sucker who sells, but who buys.
Linux kernel vs FreeBSD kernel

So what makes it stable? Is it more stable than 2.4 series Linux kernels today? And if it is, why? Are you saying that in situations where Linux kernel just dies or starts to stall seriously in performance, FreeBSD kernel just keeps on going? How do you prove this?
Or is it just more stable because it has less hardware support, meaning it has less buggy drivers? Most crashes or problems I've had with Linux Desktops are related to Xorg / XFree86 graphics drivers and not to Linux itself.
It will allow thousands of Finnish homes to download many Linux distribution ISO images every day! Because that is what p2p networks are used for, right?
Seriously folks, who REALLY needs over 256kbps line at home for anything useful? No, porn and warez do not count.
Out of what monkey's ass did you get these rumours from?
Just type "MSN protocol" as search words in Google, and you will see just how "secret" the MSN Messenger protocol is.

Flash also secretly punches holes to your tin foil hat. Nice bunch of lies you are spreading, by the way.
Dilbert, I hope you're not writing that on company time! the boss
Yeah, but last time I checked, none of the hardware I have in my PC is tagged "GNU" or "Linux". So I call it my "PC".
Don't forget Axis and Bouncycastle. My favorites libraries with stupid names. They still rock.

Just take your fucking warez information somewhere else.

What Y2K? Seems to me there was not much trouble with COBOL systems.
