    People can live in very different conditions if their basic needs are met, if there is a cultural web to participate in, and if they have control over their personal space and possibility of advancement.

    I see challenges of propinquity here, but there are very crowded, thriving urban environments to use as examples.

    The key question to answer is: What is the reason for the people to live there, rather than somewhere else? That's the question that builds cities - or ghost towns.

    I think we are more likely to be governed by these Three Laws:

    1. A citizen may not criicize the government or, through inaction, allow the government to be criticized.

    2. A citizen must obey orders given to it by the government, except where such orders would conflict with corporate profits.

    3. A citizen must protect itself from unregulated media as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

    This story has a real obvious 'bad guy' in Childs.

    Arrogant, supposedly unstable, egotistical.

    But there are odd, contrary, little pieces of this tale that intrigue me.

    I'd like to see some comprehensive treatment of this tragicomedy written a year from now, when the dust has settled, and Childs' side of the story can be heard as well.
