  1. Re:Who trusts Sony? on Sony Continues To Lose Ground In Mobile Gaming · · Score: 1

The PSP has region locking for movies (at the very least) and the DSi has it for on-line content - there's no clear winner here. As far as the PS3, the issue is that Sony have been consistently removing features since launch - not just as hardware revisions, but removing features through mandatory (if you want to go online / play recent games) firmware upgrades - and THAT is something that neither MS nor Nintendo have done.

Better than 3/4 of all Japanese people live in Tokyo and the surrounding cities (which are just as crowded) - it's an even worse population equality than, say, the UK (where something like 2/3 of the population live within an hour's drive of London) - all those other cities? they're dying ghost-towns, they don't count.

  5. Re:Non-Pornographic? on Recettear: an Item Shop's Tale Localized · · Score: 1

The porn games that get localised aren't indie - not in the way that this game is - they're available at normal games shops / electronics shops rather than in specialist indie games/comics shops or at events. There are a bunch of indie porn games too, but they're almost all parodies of established properties, so could never get released overseas

  9. Horrifically bad summary / links from wiki on Japanese ESRB Bans Rape Depiction In Games · · Score: 2, Interesting

Typical for weeaboos. EOCS is merely one group of (self)18-rated PC game producing companies - they've done things like ban having characters under 18 before, which lead to a huge number of companies leaving. I'm also trying to work out what the difference between "eroge" and "dating simulators" is - the submitter probablys means girl-games (garuge) i.e. games with a strong romantic component to them. Romance and pornography are in no way related in the Japanese markets - there are plenty of games that focus on sex and eroticism with no story component - as far as I know this includes all of Illusion's games. Wonder if this will lead me to being quoted in a (major?) US newspaper as an expert on Japanse video games again...
