If I only had mod points... Seriously, do some reading - the tile UI isn't for desktop computers or normal laptops. Those users will get a slightly updated Aero UI by default.
Which is funny, because the last install of OS X I did (10.6.7, I think) didn't have it's firewall turned on out-of-box. If you connect your machine -- doesn't matter the OS -- without some form of hardware or software firewall to the internet, you're asking for trouble.
Seriously, if you knew how many websites were running on un-patched Fedora Core 1 installs you'd shit your pants. And the thing is, they don't usually make the news because the 'sysadmins' (often web developers who know just enough to be dangerous) have no idea their boxen have been rooted.
Seriously. I can't stand the thought of someone else having every password I use for everything. I use a system to generate passwords in a semi-hard-to-predict fashion for services I don't really care about, and have a number of 'strong' passwords for things that are important. Those passwords (and the information on where to use them) gets stored in a TrueCrypt container that I periodically update and sync with my VPS and my Dropbox. The TrueCrypt volume key isn't recorded anywhere - it's in my head, which is the safest place for it (because, seriously, if someone is actually going to go to the effort of torturing me to get my passwords, they're going to be in for a big let down).
I work for a non-profit that does, among other things, employment counselling. As such, most of our staff members are extroverts and very touchy-feely (which is good in their positions). However, as the lone IT person and an introvert, I'm not a big fan of team building activities and what some have described as 'emotional circle-jerks'. I'm a fairly humble person, and get easily embarrassed at employee recognition events, and as such tend to stay away from them. I'm quite happy to do my job and interact with the rest of the staff as I choose - I'm very fortunate that our management doesn't require attendance in most of these activities.
So when it comes to lunches, I tend to do the same. I'll often just eat at my desk as I work, or maybe go out for lunch with my wife or a friend with our schedules happen to line up. If I'm feeling more social than usual, I might take lunch with other staff members, but those days are few and far between.
I haven't been on the main/. site for ages - I tend to rely on my RSS reader instead. For once, the April Fools stories have actually brought me out of my RSS shell and in to the real web.
Fair enough - we're both in an area with very robust 3G coverage from both networks, so there really hasn't been any chance to test out Edge. When I run in to him next, I'll ask him to disable 3G and we'll watch the magic!
I unlocked and sold a Rogers iPhone 3G to a friend who's using it on Telus. Works perfectly.
I got rid of the iPhone to due to Rogers network problems in my area with that model. Guess what kind of phone I got? Here's a hint: It starts with HTC and ends with Dream. I just can't win.

Did you just seriously suggest that Ubuntu include a ten minute presentation for users to watch? As in, no sarcasm there? Do you honestly expect anyone to actually sit through that? Most people don't have the attention span to sit through the multilingual Welcome video OS X shows on first-boot without trying to skip it, let alone something that talks about security for ten minutes. Remember, if you can't make the user care enough to look in the address bar to see if the 'PayPal' link sent to them in an email is actually legit, you aren't going to make them care enough to sit through ten minutes of tedium after their install is done.
