"I'm talking Buy the system, Pre-order the game, Million Seller right away kind of games"
Was that ever GTA4? Granted it was certainly the case for GTA3 for the PS2, but that was an exclusive release (originally) while GTA4 is going with a multi platform release. Maybe it would move some PS3s, but I think the 360 version will sell more copies of the game due to the larger install base, lower console price, and upcoming additional exclusive content. If anything this would have helped Microsoft sell consoles this Christmas more than it would have helped Sony.
"So once they give you the ability to play the PS3 games on your PSP using the remote feature, you basically will have a portable PS3 at home."
That is an interesting idea, but i think there are a couple of problems with it. The biggest one would be the lack of a right analog stick on the PSP. I would think that (and the lack of the second set of shoulder buttons and SIXAXIS like accelerometers) would prevent being able to play any PS3 game on a PSP. That isn't even discussing the drastic difference in graphics capabilities between the two devices nor bandwidth issues to transmit the game data, textures, etc. in real time.
Like I said, it is an interesting idea, but I just don't think playing PS3 games on the PSP will happen.
As Pastafarians it is our duty, no our responsibility, to be ever vigilant for new campaigns promoting I.D. and to fully support them in the name of our great invisible being, the Flying Spaghetti Monster. The I.D. debate only becomes clear to an elected official when the FSM and pirates become involved. So keep fighting the good fight and someday, when we meet our noodly maker, we'll all be rewarded with a stripper factory and beer volcano.
You are certainly not the only one that loves Privateer. The original though where you weren't escorting the entire time. I spent at least two summers on Privateer in High School and I've never played a space game since that wasn't ruined because it couldn't match up.
You mean I can't just fly from here to there without auto piloting? Why can't I manually keep my ship flying toward the way point I set while taking pot shots at the pirates I'm out runnig from the rear gun point? You mean I can't put a Steltek Gun on my ship!? LAME!
I've played Privateer: Remake, but it seems to be missing something. The trade points aren't the same as what I remember (and having run those for days at a time, I'm pretty sure I'm not making all of them up.)
I have an iPod because all of the other MP3 players at the time came with a microphone built in, and I can't have recording devices at my office (where I use my iPod the most.)
There are options and things I like about other MP3 players, but most of them don't have the storage I want or come with a microphone for recording. The Zune is in the same boat because of its wireless "feature." I just want a MP3 player, leave the rest of the needless crap out of it!
Don't even get me started on the problems I have with camera phones.
A lecture hall won't necessarily teach you how to code in Java, but having a large programming project assigned with a deadline can be a very good motivator.
I have done a good deal of studying and coding on my own time, but when one of my CS classes (currently going for my masters) has a project that is when I find the classes really pay off. It gives me something that I can focus on that I can't give up midstream to start a new project.
Then there are also the CS courses that don't require any programming projects: Theory of Computation, Programming Language Structures, Algorithms, and Software Engineering. These courses require almost no programming, but provide tons of good information on developing future code.
We are Windows Genuine Advantage. Lower your firewall and surrender your distro. We will add your secure and stabile source code to our own. Your kernel will adapt to service ours.
The main problem I see with your idea (besides the reboot) is performance. If you are going to load the OS from the CD (a la Knoppix) you will take large hit in either the loading of your game environment (CDs/DVDs are slower than the Hard drive seek times if I recall) or your RAM because you are caching all the OS information as well as the game information. I've never played WoW but I did play FFXI for PC and it had a 6GB initial install. Then patches and new content gallore. If WoW is similar you would easily fill a DVD with the OS/Game/previous Updates and the USB thumb drive for the patches etc would also fill quickly (not to mention added cost of the special hardware.) Obviously this would be a main concern for MMORPGs, so *craft and Diablo games would probably not see this as a huge issue.
I like your idea because it would give every player an identical operating system for gaming on, but that doesn't abstract away the player's hardware. In the end I feel this would be overkill because of that.
Yeah, but does the PSP play New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, or the top selling Brain Age?
While homebrew is a big plus for the PSP, the lack of decent games is a bigger minus. Add to that the fact most people don't want to hack their hardware to use it and you can see why Sony's sales are behind Nintendo's.
I jumped off of Hotmail about a year after MS ruined it (i.e. took it over.) Just because people get sucked in early doesn't mean they'll stay there forever. I think this will just get more people pissed off at their product and marketing strategy.
"Why doesn't this work with my Mac's browser?" "Why can't I use Firefox to check my email?" "This email program sucks!"
I just want you to know that you aren't alone. I do the same thing and if it is especially low scoring I will even read it out loud to my wife who usually finds it equally funny. Sometimes I feel it was worth having another terrible game released into the wild simply because of the pleasure the scathing review gave me.
"Anyone remember how Wing Commander included Blueprints, a manual, offers, etc? Good luck finding that stuff in a modern game."
I remember those extras. Sure it didn't always help play the game, but it helped to set the mood and give the universe a little bit of depth. The last games I saw that had extras like that were Warcraft III and Tachyon: The Fringe.
I never got into Black & White, but I bought Fable because it was supposed to be completely open RPG full of character customization and bursting to the gills with content.
What I got instead was a short, linear game with repetitive enemies and unoriginal story. What really irked my friends and I was the fact that the game forced you to be a warrior that could also use magic and a bow, instead of being only a wizard or archer. After that my friends and I decided to black list any future games that were associated with Peter Molyneux.
His ability to hype a lackluster product is brilliant though, so he should fit in with Microsoft's OS division at least.
I think it is the fact that anbody who just dropped $150 to $300 on a DS or PSP (respectively) would like to know if they're system is going to be the leader. If it is then that means that most of the cool games are going to come out for their system. If their system is second fiddle then it may get dropped or see limited game releases.
When I had a N64 I would see FF7, Metal Gear Solid, and other Playstation exclusives come out and I would think to myself, "Why dosen't my system have cool games like that?"
Then you would probably like the code posted on thedailywtf.com. The original author apparently thought exclamation points were used too often today, even in code.

Ray. If someone asks if you are a god, you say, "yes!"
I always thought it was a tie between the 3DO and the N-Gage.
Just launch them out of the airlock.

Ramen.
"Bundle a second sixaxis and resistance:fall of man with every 60GB unit for the same price."
But I thought they could sell 5 million without any games?

Resistance is futile.
January 20th: I purchase DS Phat.
:)
:(
January 26th: I cried a little.
January 27th: started working on getting wife addicted to DS.
June 11th: purchased DS Lite for myself and gave the DS Phat to my wife
August 25: wife regularly beats me in Mario

OK, I'll bite...
Deep Impact, because nothing crashes like Windows.
"Can you imagine it as a MMPORG???"
My God! Its full of 'fros!

I think we are seeing something similar here.

I heard the next phase is a crackdown on people singing along to music in their cars and showers.
And you try and tell the young people of today that, 'n they won't believe you.
That's just what the machines want you to think!
