And I call BS in regards to your ability to read. I know about skin depth, as I'm an antenna engineer and hence know skin depth doesn't play a role for audio engineering. I merely stated most technical people KNOW about skin depth, and hence know the truth. I never said anything about worrying about it, or making purchases based on it. It's the crap you need to sift through.
I am so sick of conclusions like this. How do you know what the upper (or lower) temperature limit to life is? I'm sure an alien species would find Earth inhospitable from a multitude of possible reasons. Why does Earth have to be the be-all and end-all for life? Sure it's very unlikely for such a planet to harbour life, because most things will be molten, but maybe under the surface? Maybe it has a particular mixture of atmosphere that allows a more stable environment in some parts of the planet? etc.. etc.. etc..
There are two types of Audiophiles:
(1) Non-technical people who like knowing they have thousands of dollars in equipment, blissfully ignorant of the technical details, but trusting in the outlandish claims of the various companies.
(2) Technical people who know about skin depth, SNR, etc. and make informed purchases and more often than not (as in my case) build their own high end audio equipment.
I agree with you entirely. But note that while you are a graduate student (and undergrad too in most cases) you have access to 99.99% of all Journals through your universities resources (library, and online in my case). This is how it is in Canada anyway. I find it strange in general that they charge money. It must be for the corporations that have no academic ties and can afford to fork over the money. Anyway, information wants to be free. As far as I'm concerned, education should be free from Grade 1 to Post-Doctorate. This includes textbooks and journal papers.
Are you daft? I'm your typical liberal, left-wing tree hugging nut... but is it not a fact that the majority of terrorism is perpetrated by Muslims, and devout religious Muslims at that? It is a fact that the extreme elements of Islam are responsible for the majority of terrorism in the world. It's like shying away from the fact that the nearly all of American creationists are Christian. If it's fact, fuck being PC.
Parts of Canada are equally, if not more amazing than NZ. The Banff region for one. However, there's shit for tech jobs out there, and the best tech is located in Ottawa (5000km away!) a.k.a. silicon valley north. Ottawa is a very green city (lots of trees, more than you can imagine for a city), probably moreso than any comparably sized city, but it's nothing like Western Canada.
From experience, this is a good sign, not a negative one. I chose my doctoral supervisor (among many other criteria) based on how little he tried to sell himself, and let his work speak for itself.
Yes, because the last thing America needs is rational, free-thinking westerners who still believe in freedom of speech. It seems like you guys are in need of a new set of founding fathers... perhaps include mothers this time around?
I grew up near the poverty line, mind you nothing like the troubles many Africans face. I've done my undergrad and masters in EE, purely on academic scholarships and internships. I'm currently starting my doctorate and plan to stay in Canada for my academic life. I've been offered 60k, 75k, 80k high-tech positions etc.. by headhunters and I've turned them all down. Why? Because money doesn't drive me, because I know how meaningless it truly is. You would be surprised about people who are destitute, and how they view life. It *could* be because you've grown up with money around you your whole life, but I wouldn't want to presume your intentions. It is, however, the problem with many people making the same choices you propose.
If you can't see why finding life on another planet wouldn't be worth the effort, you're a sad and deluded individual! There's no money to be made or material gain, but that's not the point. It's the scientific discovery that would be so amazing. If we could extract information about the life, whether it was DNA based, etc... can you imagine the knowledge we would gain? It's sad to see people losing the awe towards science. It's like there needs to be a net monetary gain for anything to be deemed worthwhile.
Now THAT'S customer service!

Should it be DM, or do I not know what GM stands for...

Good idea. As Al Murray would say regarding a woman's job: "Secretary or Nurse?" (in jest of course)

Bart: Church, cult, cult, church. So we'll get bored someplace else every Sunday. Does this really change our everyday lives?

Corporate job? You've lived a sheltered life.

I would say the number of slashdot comments is directly proportional to the number of rejecting women!
Perhaps they have batteries that store what they don't use and get them through the rough spots? Even if they don't, I'm it's a future possibility.
Developers x 7, Mushroom?
You wouldn't happen to be Tony Blair, would you? The mother T-rex being the queen...
I for one welcome our symphony conducting robot overlords!
Not necessarily twice, but maybe 40% of the time. Or is it 60%. Whatever works.
