That's what I do on many web sites, typcially blowme@devnull.com.
Arnold is jsut rubber-stamping legislation written by a bunch of idiots who are "try to save the children" - the generation raised by Dr. Spock.
As for the violent video games, give me a break. I remember they were blaming Dungeons & Dragons, then other RPGs, DOOM, Quake, Half-life and whatever else is coming down the pipe. Whatever happened to parents making their own decisions?
Never mind...they like legislation to do their thinking for them. That's why we have a bunch of stupid laws like this on the books.
I agree with your experiences. I don't think Salary.com has updated their information recently. The salaries seem to be a bit higher than what companies are offering, at least in Silicon Valley. Probably on the order of at least $10K.
I've had a bunch of recruiters and companies cold-calling me recently for new jobs, so things are definitely picking up.
What's very amusing to me is the very first question I'm being asked *ALL THE FREAKING TIME* is "How much salary are you looking to make?". That definitely sets an interesting tone to the interview. If you tell them something along the lines of "...I can provide you accurate salary requirements when you can tell me more about the job..." then they get all upset.
They're all just trolling, assuming that everyone is out of a job and desperate for anything. When I tell them that I'm gainfully employed, they act all surprised and such. Pathetic.
Salaries have definitely tanked somewhat. I know people who haven't seen a raise in 4 years, and many have been forced to take a pay cut. I've been lucky enough to make a relatively decent wage.
Ditto - I'm very surprised that this exploit hasn't been utilized earlier, considering the large number of people who go ahead and click on the so-called "opt-out" links. This in spite of the advise not to do so. I've already been telling my family to just delete the email.
All it does is verify your email address for spammers. I just delete what SpamAssassin doesn't get rid of.
My thoughts:
A - This will always succeed, no matter how much money, resources, etc. are thrown at the problem. A couple of pints of beer at the local pub works very well for getting confidential information....er, so I hear....
B - Software should have security built into it from the beginning. Period. Then again, most companies don't even think about it until their systems are hacked.
C and E - The only way demand for more secure software, etc. will ever increase is when we have an overwhelming amount of security issues, virus attacks, stolen IP, identify theft, DOS attacks and other problems that cripple infrastructure. Sad, but true. Only then will people act and takeit more seriously.
D - I'm impartial on Open Source in general, but I think there's excellent potential, as the security would be subjected to more review and examination.
I heard that OJ is also looking for the real culprits...

Nice going, Microsoft!
First you crash a US Navy ship a couple of years back thanks to a NT4 divide by zero bug, now this.
Today's lesson kids: Don't use Windows for any mission-critical apps!!
I haven't seen any decrease, in fact it went up significantly. I'm not all that surprised, either.

Mt. Lassen in northern California last erupted during 1914-1920. Most people don't even know it happened.
I had one math professor who decided to include "Prove or disprove: Fermat's Last Theorem" as a bonus question on an exam.
The class knew he was joking, but some decided to try it anyway...
