A local cable company is allowed to sell certain ad space in a broadcast, hence why you'll see ads for Joe Schmo mattress warehouse while watching a nationally televised program. It's just that in that circumstance they are selling the ad to themselves. In summary, it's perfectly legal and a common practice for any carrier.

I think this is one of the first plans where they've mentioned being able to tier your usage. I personally would have no problem if they set up the system like they do cell phones, you pay x amount for y minutes/GB, with overages being relatively expensive. If they could also add in something similar to cell phones where if you "call in plan" it doesn't count against your total, where the in plan refers to getting the data from a source close enough to you that it is less costly for the ISP, we would see massive improvements in the efficiency of P2P programs. At least with that everybody would be happier, consumers get the same data and ISPs use less bandwidth.

While there is no doubt that some of those factors, notably the price, can be chalked up to the decrease of competition, I would say that the new 2.0 Blu-Ray standard is playing a significant role is the lack of players that you're seeing. Most companies don't want to release a player that will be obsolete within a matter of months. The complaints from people about "their player not working like it should" alone should be enough.

He's not saying that regular users should need to fully understand how an OS works, only that people who want to know how it works should be able to. This would be akin to GM saying "Don't bother trying to fix your transmission, just buy a new car" (Yes, I know not quite the same, but close enough). Does the average car driver know how to fix their car, no. But if one had the desire to learn how to, they could. In that same way, those of us who want to learn how to fix a Windows install instead of simply reinstalling would like the oppertunity to be able to do so.
